Despite running into some criticism recently, Battlefield: Hardline has managed to gather a staggering number of players during the open beta alone. Vice President and General Manager of developers Visceral Games and Executive Producer, Steve Papoutsis, has confirmed the beta’s player count via Twitter. Going by the name of leveluptime, Papoutsis tweeted that the game had already passed 5 million players.
Wow, we've passed 5 MILLION players in the #BFHardline beta! So proud of our team. Glad you're having fun and keep that feedback coming.— Steve Papoutsis (@leveluptime) February 8, 2015
Hardline has surpassed Destiny’s registered player count during its beta phase, which set the record for 4.6 million players last year. Papoutsis then stated that players might see him online as he would be playing “a few rounds” with fans. He tweeted later that the player count reached 6 million, a new milestone before the beta ended on February 8th.
Battlefield Hardline is an upcoming first-person shooter title by Visceral Games and EA Digital Illusions. The game will be very different from other titles in the Battlefield franchise in terms of game modes and themes. It will also be similar to Battlefield: Bad Company, which offered a different gameplay style. In Hardline, players can take on the role of either an officer of the Police Department or a criminal.
Battlefield Hardline is slated to release on March 17th in the US and March 20th in the UK. The game will be available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
