Bayonetta News: Bayonetta 3 could release in 2019

Bayonetta 3 coming soon?
Bayonetta 3 coming soon?

In 2009, PlatinumGames, a recently formed developer, brought players a unique hack and slash game called Bayonetta. It reminded many of Devil May Cry, featuring an over the top smart-mouthed anti-hero in the witch Bayonetta, who faces off against both angels and demons to prevent the creation of a "new world".

Bayonetta was released a year after Devil May Cry 4 and helped to quench the thirst of fans of the series. However, PlatinumGames' newest series would focus more on bigger flashy moves, summoning demons with her hair or using torture devices like iron maidens to dispatch of her enemies.

Bayonetta was a huge success, and in five months sold well over one million copies across both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. And though it wasn't published by Microsoft or Sony, the sequel, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, sold pretty well, averaging about 700,000 worldwide by the fifth month. Bayonetta 2 was also considered the better of the two games, with many critics considering it to be a massive improvement on an already excellent title.

And with the track record that boasts other great titles like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, The Wonderful 101, Nier: Automata and more, it's fair to assume that Bayonetta 3 will continue to improve on an already stellar and nearly flawless series. And...it looks like we may be getting the long-awaited sequel sooner than we hoped.

During a recent episode of the Nintendo Power Podcast, Senior Product Marketing Manager Bill Trinnen seemed to hint that Bayonetta 3 may be on its way.

"Bayonetta 3 is still in the works...and of course that's another game that's maybe coming a little bit sooner than people anticipated. Later this year."

If that's true, this year's library will be chock full of fantastic third-person action games. With Devil May Cry 5 almost out, this would be the first year where titles from both series came out in the same calendar year. This is shaping up to be a fantastic year for gamers.
