BioWare, the Canadian developer whose latest game, Anthem, releases next month, has been through a lot of changes since it released Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic in 2003.

It put out Jade Empire a couple of years later, followed by the massively popular Mass Effect series and Dragon Age franchise. Most importantly, the company found itself bought and owned by EA in 2007.

Through all the changes, however, the one thing that hasn't changed was the company's desire to make another single-player Star Wars RPG. It seems with yet another game based on the legendary movie franchise getting canned by EA, the chances of that are looking pretty slim. Especially if this latest story is true.

The story regarding the cancelled Star Wars open-world game broke less than a week ago on Kotaku by Jason Schrier. Following that report, Schreier took to Twitter to answer some reader comments and questions, and the following exchange took place.

It's no secret that EA has been wanting to move away from single-player experiences and more towards what they call "service-based" experiences - because nobody plays single-player games anymore, of course.

With the poor reception of Mass Effect: Andromeda (which we're certainly not putting at the feet of Bioware) and Anthem more in line with what EA is looking for, it'll probably be quite a while before we get that amazing single-player RPG experience that made BioWare famous in the first place.

That being said, a new KOTOR game is certainly not out of the realm of possibility, and if games with primarily single-player experiences keep gaining sales traction (Red Dead Redemption 2 may have a robust online mode, but it's certainly not the reason it became the best selling game of 2018), EA could certainly change its tune. Only time will tell.

What do you think? Should EA let BioWare make a new KOTOR? Sound off below.
