Activision has been on quite a rut this week. Following the massive layoffs from the company, due to sales expectations not being met and corporate restructuring, we don't know how they plan to do projects moving forward. The layoffs were mostly for projects that were undercutting and unsuccessful.

In a recent update, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on PC has removed the Free for All and Kill Confirmed Modes. Players were not happy about this. These changes are curated specifically for PC, and it will not apply on the PS4 and Xbox One. It has only been 4 months since the release of Black Ops 4 and the player base has dropped quite significantly. It can take an incredibly long time to queue up and match with others. Sadly, there is no crossplay feature available to rectify this.

Even the popular Battle Royale mode Blackout has seen a dip in players. There are not enough people playing on PC to fill the servers. Blackout is definitely a great Battle Royale by itself, but the $60 paywall behind it makes it a hard sell with free-to-play Battle Royales such as Fortnite, PUBG Mobile and most recently, Apex Legends.

Implementing a paid Battle Pass system on top of that makes it a hard sell for newer players. While it has attracted existing Call of Duty fans and while Black Ops 4 sales have been performing well, players are getting frustrated with Activision's practices and greedy business model. Not putting in a single player campaign like other Call of Duty games was also another point of frustration among players.

Black Ops 4 has been performing quite well on console, compared to PC. It is getting a steady influx of players and maintains a strong enough player base to support all modes. Most Call of Duty games have been doing better on the console.
