Brian Fargo announces The Bard's Tale 4, sequel to the game released before 27 years

Brian Fargo announces sequel after 27 years

Brian Fargo is returning with yet another classic franchise for his team’s next project, The Bard’s Tale IV. After creating his solo studio in the year 2002, Fargo began working on the Bard’s tale, a game based on comical reimaging of the Franchise’s troops and this was released in the year 2004. Now, the Bard’s Tale IV is a proper sequel, though, marking the first since 1988's The Bard's Tale III: Thief of Fate.

Fargo stated that, "This project has always been really personal to me. It was a game that put both me and Interplay on the map, back in the day. And it's also the franchise that launched inXile”. He tweeted that,

Now, InXile Entertainment is planning a Kickstarter for the game but the details on it are still not very clear, but so far Frago has announced that the team will be pulling from the original as far as overarching ideas go. Now, from the story’s perspective, players will be going back to where it all started, Skara Brae.

However, Fargo is aiming to move on a different direction. "Traditional turn-based combat," as Fargo calls it, will be based on turns with varying factors, creating battles in which different characters attacked at different times, often alternating between opposing sides.

However, in this sequel, The Bard's Tale IV, teams will be attacking all at once, it will increase the pace of the combat, and will allow players to come up with different set of tactics than the traditional system might allow.

Fargo stated that, "There will be plenty of combat diversity and depth. You look at something like Hearthstone, for example. It's sort of that going back-and-forth process, and you see the complexity and detail and strategy and nuance that can happen. It's really an amazing system. I love those modern influences. I took a lot away from that, and see things we need to do with our combat system."

Fargo also mentioned that crowdsourcing will allow him to make the games he wants to make without realizing that it didn't release under the traditional publishing system, Wasteland 2 sold extremely well right out of the gate and this has been another project to Kickstarter.
