Firaxis Games Sid Meier's Civilization VI now has a free trial on Steam for the next 2 days (ends on 14 February)! The game is also 70% off on Steam till 18 December, including the DLC packs. The sale and the free trial is to celebrate the launch of the new DLC "Gathering Storm" which will also be releasing on 14 February.

For those who have never tried the Civilization games (or never picked up 6 because it might have been too expensive), this opportunity is a great way to try it out. Civilization VI is a complex and intricate game where you can control World Leaders from the Stone Age all the way till the Information Age, ending the game with multiple victory possibilities.

Civilization VI is a turn-based game. Players will have one turn to do whatever they can with their units, and other players will also play alongside you. During these turns, players can research and advance their science as well as politics. You can also forge alliances with other civilizations and declare war against others too.

The game also focuses on trade, which will impact the economy of your civilization. You can trade and make deals with other civilizations, as well as smaller but significant cities called "city-states". Remember, your diplomacy plays a huge part in how you win the game! It can take incredibly long for a game to finish and you won't be able to finish most in a day. Thank god for save games!

The new expansion, Gathering Storm (this is not discounted since it's new!) ups the game by adding hurdles that were never seen before in a Civilization game. The new expansion introduces new global alliance mechanics and the takeaway for this expansion is natural disasters and geography. Your civilization can get destroyed by a tornado, your farms can get destroyed by floods and the location of your civilization becomes of the utmost importance.
