Nintendo has revealed its plans to shut down Club Nintendo worldwide. In a recent press release, Nintendo has announced that they are shutting down the program later this year though they are not doing away with the aspect of rewarding fans. Club Nintendo rewarded gamers with many special rewards which were redeemable for coins earned by registering the games and filling out surveys for the game. The company is now planning a loyalty program for its fans. Nintendo America’s executive vice president of Sales and Marketing, Scott Moffitt, explained a bit more about the companies plans for Club Nintendo:

“We thank all Club Nintendo members for their dedication to Nintendo games and their ongoing love for our systems and characters. We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their Coin balances.”

Nintendo has also stated that they will be adding a number of physical rewards in February which they have not done in a few years now. This will be great for fans who have been disappointed with Nintendos recent rewards which have been digital rather than physical.

The final date, for registering a new Club Nintendo account, is on March 31st. So it’s best to register before that if you want a chance to earn any coins and rewards. Club Nintendo members will be able to redeem their coins for rewards through June 30th. The press release also revealed that Club Nintendo members will also be able to download Flipnote Studio 3D for free next month. Nintendo is yet to reveal its plans for members who have reached Gold or Platinum levels, but hopefully they will in the following months.
