Days Gone: 11 gameplay and story details you need to know about the game

Days Gone
Days Gone

Days Gone is an upcoming zombie open world action-adventure game by Bend Studios exclusively for the PS4.

It is also the only AAA PS4 exclusive title with a confirmed release date or a release window of 2019. The other three - Death Stranding, The Last Of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tshusima - still haven't been given a release window and most probably will be a cross-generation title with the upcoming PS5.

Coming back to the game, Reddit just recently laid out some new and old subtle details about the game which are worth checking out.

But here are the top 11 major details filtered out which you should really know.

#1 The Freakers' ears are the currency in the world of Days Gone

Freakers, a type of infected found in hordes in the game world, are your common foe and so their ears will supposedly act as the currency for everything in the post-apocalyptic world of Days Gone. Also, if you damage Freakers' ears, then there's a possibility that you might only get 1 or 0 of the ears. Got to be careful, right?

Nothing else has been confirmed yet, though it does open up the possibility that different body parts of the infected will be salvageable for crafting and other stuff.

#2 Every building is accessible

This is actually pretty good. Making every building accessible means no load times while traversing the open world, though be warned that most of the buildings are probably going to look the same if the developers had actually followed this concept.

#3 Dialogue choices

This hasn't really been shown in any of the trailers, but it is very interesting.

Nobody was probably expecting Days Gone to have Role Playing elements and multiple endings, but it seems that the game is targeting such goals, which is good.

#4 Freakers follow a routine (Drink, Eat, Sleep)

The Freakers actually haven't mutated much, so they still follow the habits of humans, such as eating, drinking, and sleeping. This could lead to players making different strategies as to how and when to take down these infected. Also, the Freakers tends to get mutated during the course of the main story so expect a change in the pattern every now and then.

#5 Freakers tend to be stronger at night and when it's snowing

Days Gone (night time)

The Freakers hibernate during the day and roam mostly during the night.

Their abilities are more enhanced during the night and when it's snowing, but don't expect them to stick together during such a time. At night they are abundant but scattered throughout, unlike during the daytime.

#6 There are over 1000 dynamic events

The game has been emphasising a lot on the dynamic events throughout the game.

That includes weather, combat encounters, as well as ambush encounters. Apparently, there are 1000 of them in total.

#7 Camps behave differently during the weather

Camps are a vital part of the game, whether it be infiltrating an enemy's camp or managing your own, and the activity of the NPC's tend to change according to the weather.

For example, on a sunny day, they build a circle and watch two members fight each other, and while snowing they are patrolling the area.

Since the weather changes dynamically, the player will need to rethink their strategies every time because they might go expecting it to be a sunny day but it starts snowing out of nowhere. It completely changes the strategies and the arsenal of weapons involved.

#8 Deacon has a Survival Vision

Days Gone
Days Gone

Of course, just like every other game nowadays, Deacon, the main protagonist of Days Gone, will have a survival vision as well to help him analyse his surrounding well.

This feature has been recently used in The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc.

#9 Deacon's Bike is upgradable

Days Gone

This won't come as a surprise and many people probably know about this as well, but it was worth mentioning it. There are many ways to upgrade Deacon's bike.

For example, adding a muffler to the bike makes it a lot stealthier to drive around and it is more difficult to get jumped onto by the nearby enemies that can otherwise hear Deacon.

Also, the fuel in the bike may run out anytime so the player needs to be conscious about this and look around for fuel tanks scattered across the game world.

#10 The Bike's tires wear off depending upon the pathway you're driving on

The Bike is the player's closest companion in the game.

Driving it on the unbeaten paths such as forests will wear off the tires easily when compared to sticking to the roads.

#11 The Bike acts as a mobile inventory

Deacon's bike acts like the horse from Red Dead Redemption 2. It can be used to store weapons, used for crafting, etc.

The players can temporarily choose to store the items they collect in the world there.

Days Gone is out 26 April, 2019.
