Souls are the primary currency in Deadlock, Valve’s latest hero shooter title. Players need to farm this resource efficiently to secure a lead in the game and an upper hand against the enemy team. Souls are also responsible for leveling up your character and obtaining new abilities or upgrades. There are various ways in which you can acquire Souls while playing in a match.

Souls in Deadlock are similar to the Gold currency in Dota 2 (Valve’s popular MOBA title) and can be used in the game shop to buy new items. These upgrades help players create a strong build that can aid them in overpowering the opposition and taking down their base.

This article highlights the best way to get Souls in Deadlock.

What are Souls in Deadlock? In-game currency explained

Souls, as mentioned, are the currency that needs to be farmed and spent in a Deadlock match. They can be gathered by killing enemy troops and heroes or by completing different objectives.

Souls can be exchanged for special items available in the Curiosity Shop. As the game progresses, you will need to complete different objectives and secure Souls for yourself to buy better items and fight enemy heroes.

The level progression of your hero also depends on the number of Souls, so it is best to participate in laning phases to unlock all your abilities and upgrade them to their maximum limit.

Top strategies to increase Deadlock Souls farming

Here is a list of methods that you can use to gather as many Souls as possible while playing a match:

Farming in Lanes

Each lane will periodically spawn and send out a small battalion of creeps to fight from both teams. You must land the last hits on these troopers when they are low on health for half of the Souls and then secure the other half by shooting the orbs as they float up.

You can also shoot down the Souls of your troopers to deny the Soul gain for enemy heroes. This will ensure that you always hold an upper hand when leveling up and buying new items. However, after the 10-minute mark, you will need to kill the creeps and shoot down the orbs to gain Souls. You can choose to melee the last hits to instantly capture the entire Soul drop.

Jungling

Like any classic MOBA title, Deadlock provides an ample amount of neutral creeps throughout the map for the players to secure Souls. Players can gather a massive amount of Souls by clearing the different tiers of neutral camps around the map.

However, it is important to note that Tier 3 camps are difficult to clear by yourself, so it is best to have a teammate clear it with you. The Tier 1 and Tier 2 camps can be wiped by a single hero, but it is best to keep an eye on your health bar while fighting these creeps.

Each tier provides a different amount of Souls depending on their level. The Soul drops from these camps increase over time as the game progresses. Tier 1 camps are marked with a triangle, Tier 2 with a triangle and a line underneath, and Tier 3 with a triangle and two lines.

Lane and map objectives

It is important to keep track of the final objective of the game. The team would lose the bigger battles if everyone only kept clearing neutral camps. It is crucial to maintain map control, push lanes with the troopers, and slowly progress ahead by inflicting chip damage on the Guardians.

When slain, each Guardian can provide 275 Souls to the entire team. The Walkers give out 750 Souls, and the Shrines after the Double Guardians can dish out 500.

This is one of the best ways to secure a large amount of Souls in the game but can be quite tedious as players will meet with constant resistance and flanks from the enemy team.

For this reason, you should also take part in transporting the Urns (in Yellow and Purple lanes) to their designated position on the map to gain a certain amount of Souls as a reward.

Taking down the Mid Boss after the 10-minute mark is a core part of the game as players can gain access to the Rejuvenating crystal as a reward. This can provide the entire team with a massive set of buffs that can act as an initiating agent for pushes and team fights. The Mid Boss drops a total of 1750 Souls, making it one of the highest-priority targets on the map.

Eliminating enemy heroes

Killing enemy heroes is one of the most reliable ways to gather Souls after last-hitting lane creeps. This is a great way to secure a lot of Souls in a single fight while pushing a lane to gain additional map control.

It is important to note that flanking and ganking enemy heroes is one of the most effective ways to secure kills and a lot of Souls.

Alternatively, you should keep an eye out on the map to check the disappearance of heroes from their respective lanes. If a chunk of the enemy team is not visible, you might want to walk back toward the allied towers for protection. This can also mean that they are trying to farm up the jungle camps and is a great opportunity to gather with a few of your squad members to pressure one of the lanes.

Destructible items on the map

The map contains a lot of boxes and containers that can be broken. These might appear like decorative elements to a new player, so it is best to take a shot or melee around these objects.

Boxes and containers are generally destructible and can provide you with a few extra Souls. However, they do not guarantee a Soul drop every time and could instead reward with a different set of buffs.
