Dota 2 News: All You Need to Know About The Chongqing Major

The first major tournament of 2019 will be starting today for Dota 2. The Chongqing Major is being hosted in Chongqing, China with local teams such as Virtus Pro and PSG.LGD competing in their home turf. This is the first major tournament where players need to compete to win to gather DPC points, which will put them on the road to the Major as well as to Dota 2's biggest tournament, the International 2019.

This tournament is going to be an interesting watch. The winners of The International 2018, Team OG will not be competing in the tournament. Team Liquid will also have to compete without their biggest star and strongest player, Amer “Miracle-” Barkawi. "Miracle-" is one of the best mid/carry players in the game and players have always joked about "Oh look it's Miracle vs everyone else". Miracle will not be in the tournament due to personal reasons.

The top two teams from each group advance to the Upper Bracket of Main Event. The bottom two teams from each group advance to the Lower Bracket of Main Event. The lower bracket winners will face the upper bracket winners.

Prize Pool

The Chonqing Major will have a $1,000,000 USD prize pool and 15,000 DPC points to be distributed. The split will be as follows:

  • 1st: $350,000 | 4950 pts
  • 2nd: $170,000 | 3000 pts
  • 3rd: $100,000 | 2100 pts
  • 4th: $80,000 | 1350 pts
  • 5th-6th: $60,000 | 900 pts
  • 7th-8th: $40,000 | 450 pts
  • 9th-12th: $15,000 | 150 pts
  • 13th-16th: $10,000 | 75 pts

Dates And Times

The tournament will commence on 19 January 2019, 6 PM PST / 3 PM CET / 7.30 AM IST / 10 AM China time. The final event will be on 27 January 2019.
