Dragon Age The Veilguard Walkthrough: How to complete The Waiting Stone quest

The Waiting Stone is a companion quest for Lace Harding in Dragon Age The Veilguard. It is one of the earlier side quests that becomes available shortly after recruiting Harding and offers a great opportunity to learn about her new abilities, and how to use them. This quest follows Harding's attempt to meet with Kal-Sharok dwarves, trying to find an answer to the mystery going afoot in her mind.

Additionally, if you want to romance Harding, the quest concludes with a conversation that can shape your romance with her. However, you need to choose your dialogues carefully.

Unlock the quest

Note: This Dragon Age The Veilguard quest can only be unlocked if you have completed the main quest "Something Wrong," and the companion quest "An Unfamiliar Sense."

After you see an orange exclamation mark above Harding's icon on the map, talk to her at the lighthouse to unlock The Waiting Stone.

The quest description is as follows:

"Seeking answers about her new abilities, Harding has contacted the Kal-Sharok dwarves with hope that they'll know whose voice she's been hearing."

Travel to the location

Note: The final boss is susceptible to Necrotic damage, thus it is recommended that you take Lucanis or Emmrich as the third-party member.

You need to fast travel to the Deep Roads to start the quest.

The Quest

Your goal here is to meet Harding's contact. However, you'll first have to deal with a pack of deepstalkers. After defeating them, take the elevator down. Now, You'll encounter Harding's contact, Stalgard, who opens the door for you. You can respond however you like, as it won’t impact your relationship with Harding.

Follow Stalgard through the outpost, here you can grab hold of a few mementos if you go off the main path. Before you can progress, you'll have an encounter with a few Darkspawns. The quest will then be blocked by a corroded door. You need to destroy a few blight growths to open up the pathway to Lyrium Sanctum.

Lyrium Sanctum

Go to the elevator and use Harding's ability just before the lift to access a chest. Once you try to go above, you'll encounter stone slabs blocking the path — use Harding's ability to clear them. Once you reach the top floor, exit the elevator from the back and descend to grab a chest.

Follow The Waiting Stone quest marker until you reach a split. You can go any path, but we'll start with the right path. After an encounter with Darkspawns, destroy the blight roots to move forward. Jump onto the hanging platform and hop down to continue. Follow the cycle of fighting Darkspawn and destroying blight roots until you return to the split. This time, take the left path.

After another encounter with Darkspawns, you'll need to destroy three roots. Use Harding's ability to destroy the second one, before shooting the third one. Next, use Harding's magic to ascend towards the hanging platforms. This time, you’ll face an ogre. While it is a tougher fight, the ogre doesn't get cronies for aid, so focus on chipping away at its health to progress in The Waiting Stone quest. Once defeated, destroy the blight to open a passage and reunite with Stalgard.

The Boss

Next, you'll meet the Oracle. Your dialogue choices here won’t impact Harding, so feel free to speak your mind. The cutscene transitions into a boss fight — Wrath of the Stone. This boss frequently uses AOE attacks, so be ready to dodge often. Ranged attacks or area abilities are effective for breaking its armor, and a bleed build works exceptionally well.

Once the boss’s armor is depleted, Greater Deepstalkers will appear. Let Lucanis/Emmrich deal with the boss, while you and Harding deal with them. However, use Rook’s abilities specifically against the boss. Keep fighting until the boss drops down. Defeat this Dragon Age The Veilguard boss to progress forward, which will trigger a cutscene.

The Conversation

After the cutscene concludes, you'll have a conversation with Harding at the Lighthouse. This is a great time to flirt with Harding if you want Rook to romance her.

Harding: "Oh hey."

Choices:

• Want company?
• That oracle was intense.
• Buck up.
• You're brooding. [Flirt with Harding]

• I don’t know but I’m here. [Flirt with Harding]
• Focus on the job.
