In what is set to be a major boost for eFootball across the globe, FIFA has announced that the first ever eNations Cup will take place on 13th and 14th April 2019 as part of the Road to the FIFA eWorld Cup 2019.

One of just eight Majors on FIFA 19's Global Series, the eNations Cup will witness 16 eFootball national teams consisting of two players each squaring off against one other.

Each nation will have the opportunity to hold national championships to determine their representative at the marquee event.

The eNations Cup, which is an invite-only event, presents players with the unique opportunity to represent their respective national teams for the first time on the FIFA 19 Global Series.

Luis Vicente, Chief Digital Transformation & Innovation Officer at FIFA, expressed his delight at the announcement, saying, "The involvement of our member associations with a dedicated nations tournament is another significant and exciting step forward for FIFA and the development of eFootball globally.

"After the successful introduction of the FIFA eClub World Cup™ in recent years and the new team mode, we are looking forward to integrating this nation vs nation competition into our eFootball portfolio," he went on to add.

The FIFA eNations Cup is one of just three tournaments organised by FIFA - the other two being the FIFA eWorld Cup and the FIFA eClub World Cup - with a whopping 1500 Global Series points on offer aside from the prize money.

The announcement of the eNations Cup is the latest in a host of developments undertaken by FIFA to ensure the growth of eSports globally. Earlier, they had also announced the extension of their broadcast deal with German channel Sport1; a deal which includes the eNations Cup.

Further details, including the host city, format and participants will be announced at a later date.
