FIFA 19 is all set to hit the stores on 28 September 2018 for PS4, PC and Xbox One. From the demo that was released earlier in September, it is clear that this year's FIFA franchise in unlike any other iteration as for the first time, the game will feature official licenses for the UEFA Champions League. Furthermore, this year's release features a revamped kick-off mode along with a slew of gameplay improvements that all work in unison to bring the game one step closer to the perfect football simulation.

Every year, as a part of the build-up to the game, EA Sports announces the 100 highest-rated players in the game. However, that list always has a fair share of controversy as few players are rated lower than their potential while a few others receive a rating that is far higher than the performances they put in the previous season, and in this article, let us dive in deeper and look closer at the five overrated players in FIFA 19.

#5 Thiago Silva | CB | Paris Saint Germain | Brazil

Brazil v Mexico: Round of 16 - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

The 34-year-old Brazilian defender is well past his prime and is no longer one of the best defenders in the game. Thiago Silva is only a shadow of what he had produced at AC Milan and is no longer an unshakeable defender.

Silva put consistent performances last season for PSG, but that does not warrant an 88 rating for the defender, as other players such as Samuel Umtiti and Raphael Varane had far better seasons, but are still rated lower than the Brazilian. In FIFA 19, Silva possesses 88 defending, 79 physical and 71-rated pace.

Overall - 88

Pace - 71

Shooting - 54

Passing - 73

Dribbling - 70

Defending - 88

Physical - 89

#4 Mesut Ozil | CAM | Arsenal | Germany

Cardiff City v Arsenal FC - Premier League

Mesut Ozil is one of those players who had a disastrous 2017/18 season, and his frustrations spilt over into the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The German playmaker had nothing going for him at the Emirates last season and could only manage nine assists and four goals. Ozil's performances have fallen down a long way when compared to his 2015/16 Premier League season, which saw him set up 19 goals and score six others.

Nevertheless, in FIFA 19, Mesut Ozil features 86 passing and 84 dribbling, making him one of the more effective playmakers of the game. His 58-rated physical is a disappointment, though.

Overall - 86

Pace - 70

Shooting - 73

Passing - 86

Dribbling - 84

Defending - 24

Physical - 58

#3 Luis Suarez | ST | FC Barcelona | Uruguay

FC Barcelona v PSV - UEFA Champions League Group B

With 91 overall, Luis Suarez is one of the highest-rated strikers in the game. The 31-year-old Uruguayan international netted the ball in the net 25 times for FC Barcelona in the 2017/18 season but is no way close to the performances he had put in his yesteryears.

Suarez received a downgrade of one point in FIFA 19, but is still rated higher than Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski and Mohamed Salah, which is perplexing, as the other three players had absolutely spectacular seasons under their belt.

Overall - 91

Pace - 80

Shooting - 90

Passing - 79

Dribbling - 87

Defending - 52

Physical - 85

#2 Alexis Sanchez | LW | Manchester United | Chile

Burnley FC v Manchester United - Premier League

Alexis Sanchez is yet to reach his best after the high-profile move to Manchester United in January 2018. The 29-year-old Chilean winger had a very disappointing 2017/18 Premier League season that saw him net nine goals, along with setting up six others.

Sanchez's overall received a downgrade in FIFA 19, but with his lacklustre season for the Red Devils, the overall should have been downgraded even further. In the game, 89-rated dribbling and 80+ rated pace and shooting are the highlights of Alexis Sanchez.

Overall - 87

Pace - 82

Shooting - 83

Passing - 79

Dribbling - 89

Defending - 45

Physical - 79

#1 Gianluigi Buffon | GK | Paris Saint Germain | Italy

Arsenal v Paris Saint Germain - International Champions Cup 2018

Buffon's best years at Juventus are well behind him. The 40-year-old Italian goalkeeper has been rated higher in FIFA 19 than other goalkeepers including Liverpool's Alisson and Manchester City's Ederson.

The Italian's rating has seen a drop of only one point in FIFA 19, still making him one of the highest-rated goalkeepers in the game. His stats for positioning could be justified, but diving and reflexes needed a downgrade in FIFA 19.

Overall - 88

Diving - 88

Handling - 87

Kicking - 74

Reflexes - 83

Speed - 49

Positioning - 90
