Midfielders are the engine of the team. They are the most sought-after players in FIFA 19 Ultimate Team and everyone wants a player who can run up and down the pitch, and contribute at both ends.

FIFA 19 Winter Upgrades are around the corner and it's time to look at the midfielders who are in contention to get an upgrade. The likes of Paul Pogba and N'Golo Kante are already rated so high, they are not going to get any upgrade.

PS: Only players whose base card is of the positions CM, CDM and CAM have been considered

Here are 3 Premier League midfielders who will get an upgrade:

#3 – Lucas Torreira

In short, Lucas Torreira is Arsenal's version of N'Golo Kante. The Uruguayan has settled in well at the Emirates and has been impressive in all his outings.

Signed for £26 million from Sampdoria, he is already proving to be a bargain. There is no doubt that he can be the heart of the Arsenal midfield soon and along with Mattéo Guendouzi, dominate the midfield for them.

Rated at 78 in FIFA 19, Torreira's on-field performances have shown that he deserves a lot more. The midfielder has a pace stat of just 77 and he is way faster than that. EA should consider pushing him to 82 at least in the refresh.

The stats they really need to boost big time are his defending and physical stats. Despite being a little package on the pitch, the Uruguayan has shown immense strength to get the ball off the opponents.

Both stats are currently at a mere 73 and EA should bost it to 80+. Ideally, his defending should go up to 82 and physical to 80 or even 81, at least. His overall should be at 81 or 82 for sure.

#2 – Mattéo Guendouzi

From one Arsenal star to another. Mattéo Guendouzi has also shown what he is capable of and is in contention to get an upgrade. The young Frenchman has a base rating of 67 and that is a huge mistake right now.

EA have shown that they do believe in his talent and made him a part of the Future Stars squad with a rating of 87. While it is not expected for him to get such a massive boost in February, he does deserve a push up from silver to a gold card.

From 67, EA should push him to 75, at least for now. All his stats right now are in the 60's and that is in no way a proper reflection of his on-field performances. EA should just boost all his stats by +8 and that would be the best for him.

#1 – David Brooks

Another youngster (and newcomer) in the Premier League who has impressed a lot this season is AFC Bournemouth's David Brooks. The young Welshman has featured in most of the Cherries games and has been the driving force in their attack.

While he has not got the assists or goals, his key passes have resulted in Bournemouth scoring. The midfielder has a silver card in FUT right now with a rating of just 69 and without a doubt, he deserves a lot more than that.

EA should ideally push him from silver to gold as well but they might end up pushing to the maximum for a silver – 74. While it won't be a fair reflection of his on-field performances, there will be very few who will argue for or against it. Surprisingly, he did not make it to the Future Stars squad as well, just like Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi.
