Final Fantasy XIV to get new expansion pack 'Heavensward'

Square Enix have announced the first expansion pack for the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Final Fantasy XIV. Named Heavensward the expansion pack is all set to be released on the Spring of 2015.

The Game’s director Naoki Yoshida announced this news and released the teaser trailer in the Final Fantasy XIV Fanfest event held in Las Vegas. This expansion focusses on the Dragonsong War, a thousand-year conflict between Ishgard and Dravania. This expansion pack will be a part of the Update 3.0 and will raise the level cap to 60. The game also gets a new playable race and the players will be able to build airships to explore "Ishgard and beyond".

Square Enix said they will release more information about the expansion pack in the upcoming London Fan Festival to be held in October 25.

The list of features included in the expansion pack are:

  • Level cap raise from 50 to 60 across all jobs and professions.
  • Massive new areas.
  • A new player race with both male and female characters.
  • Multiple new jobs.
  • New Primals, one of which will be completely unique to FFXIV.
  • Many new dungeons — more than 3 or 4.
  • High-end raids
  • Airships, Airship, Airships — Free Companies can band together and build their own airships.
  • New gear and recipes.
