One such top ten list is here. You can expand your knowledge in the field of video games by having a look at some of the amazing facts about games that you probably have never heard of! #10 Donkey Kong Was Mario\'s Mistreated Pet

Believe it or not, Donkey Kong was Mario’s pet. I have no idea how he managed to get a primate for a pet, but the story gets a lot worse from here. The reason Donkey Kong escaped in the first place was only because Mario was abusing him.

The poor beast suffered years of torture before he finally embraced freedom. Now, you cannot blame his for his actions! The fact that he kidnapped the princess all makes sense now. It was a plot for vengeance against his former master, Mario.

#9 Final Fantasy VII Was Too Big A Game For The N64

Well, I did not expect this one! Final Fantasy shifted from Nintendo consoles and onto Sony ones? This swap seems to have occurred for a very logical and legitimate reason. According to reports, when Squaresoft were designing Final Fantasy VII for the Nintendo 64, they realised that it was going to be pretty big.

To give you an estimate, Square said the game would not fit in a N64 cartridge. To be more precise, the game was too big for even 10 cartridges! The only logical option left was to move over to the PlayStation where the game would be spread over 4 discs!

#8 Bankruptcy Lead To The Name Final Fantasy

Today, there is not one gamer who has not heard of the game, ‘Final Fantasy’. However, truth be told, Square was about to go bankrupt before they made this marvelous game. Hironobu Sakaguchi was about to quit video game design forever. This game was made by him as a swan-song to the company and his gaming career.

Sakaguchi decided to make a small game called ‘Final Fantasy’. After the release the game turned out to be the biggest money maker for the company and I need not say anymore. The fact that we are now on ‘Final Fantasy XV’ says it all.

#7 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Exists Thanks To A Dare

The initial success of the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time created Shigeru Miyamoto had his staff encouraged them to go on with the working of a project called “Ura Zelda.” However, this project was never completed. From what we have heard Eiji Aonuma, a designer who was leading the project at the time, complained to Miyamoto that he didn’t like the idea for “Ura Zelda” and didn’t want to work on it anymore.

Miyamoto being the risk taker he is challenged Aonuma to come up with a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time within one year. Aonuma took up the challenge and came up with the game we now know as The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. However, it does feel strage that a game this big would be a result of a dare!

#6 The Real Reason Behind The Delay of Halo 2

This is by far the weirdest thing i have come across. ESRB has been doing a good job rating the games. However, I wonder what their reaction would have been if the found the photo of what one can assume to be a Bungie team-member's naked backside in the game.

A few enthusiastic fans took a look at the Vista version of Halo 2 and were greeted by the naked backside of a man. Microsoft went to work immediately and this was the true reason behind the delay of the game. It may seem like this was a harmless prank but one can never be too careful these days with regards to the game rating.

#5 Donkey Kong 64 Expansion Pack Was To Patch Up A Fatal Flaw

I remember how one had to upgrade their video game console using “Expansion Packs”. The famous, Donkey Kong 64 however, was released into the market with the expansion pack already included in the box. I wonder what was the reason behind this act of generosity! According to reports, the game Donkey Kong 64 had a flaw deep inside the game coding.

The prgrammers were unable to figure this out and were forced to provide the expansion pack along with the game. Coming to think about it, this little flaw in coding would have cost Rare a fortune as the ‘Exansion Packs’ were usually sold separately and were worth a fortune as upgrades were an integral part of the gaming console.

#4 Luigi Exists Due To NES Memory Limitations

Mario and Luigi always go hand in hand. One cannot think about the evergreen, Mario and not think of his twin brother, Luigi. However, truth be told, the reason for Luigi’s existance is the lack of Memory on te NES. Nintendo were unale to create a separate character to allow for a second character in game.

This was a big problem and the only solution they came up with was to clone Mario and make him green. They further decided to brand them both as brothers as this was the only logical explanation that would answer the question, “Why do they both look alike.”

#3 The Pigs In Angry Birds Mean No Harm

One may get the feeling that the green pigs in Angry Birds are nasty little pests. However, they mean no harm at all. According to the creators of the game themselves, who tweeted a message from the perspective of one of the Piggies that said: “No! Piggies don’t want to harm anyone.

Piggies want to have some eggs for breakfast. Oink.” This would mean that the pigs are approaching the birds asking them for a few eggs and not trying to attack them! Think this through the next time you are trying to annihilate the green little Piggies.

#2 Tomb Raider: Legend Has No Opening Cutscene As Someone Forgot To Put One

Yes, this does sound too weird to be true but, it is a fact. The reason as to why Tomb Raider: Legend has no opening cutscene is that the programmers forgot to insert it. Edios was in a hurry to ship the game out in time and hence they decided to leave the game how it was.

There is nothing wrong with the game however; it does feel a tad bit weird to be dropped right into the game without any introduction. To be honest, I am more interested to know about what happened to the programmer who forgot to include the cutscene into the game!

#1 Pokemon Gold and Silver Were To Be The End Of The Series

Believe it or not, Pokemon Gold and Silver, released way back in the year 1999, were to mark the end of the Pokemon game series. The end included the end of everything starting from Pokemon trading cards to video games. According to Pokemon CEO Tsunekaz Ishihara, “I thought that once we entered the twenty-first century, it would be time for me to do something else entirely.”

However, he ended up creating 150 new Pokemon for the Gold and Silver. This might seem a tad bit weird but hey, it would have been an act of stupidity to abandon a cash cow during its prime time!
