10 weirdest video games of All Time

weirdest video games of All Time

One of the key element that’s necessary for developing a video game is imagination. You just can’t create a fictitious universe if you’re devoid of imaginative skills. However, some developers have let their imagination run horrendously wild, and concocted some bizarre video games in the process. And while some of them are extremely awesome to play, others are just downright outrageous. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the weirdest video games of all time.

#10 LSD: Dream Emulator

weirdest video games of All Time

For sensible people like us who are too smart to try acid, this game shows us what the world looks like in the eyes of a person who’s had more trips than an amateur skipper. LSD: Dream Emulator has no story whatsoever and only provides you with a virtual high experience. Gosh these Japanese come up with the oddest of stuff.

#9 Toilet Tycoon

It’s similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon, the only difference being that instead of building something that provides amusement, you’re building something that provides relief to people. Toilet Tycoon involves you scouting various locations in the city that are suitable for building toilets and building some in order to cater to the bowel and sphincter movements of the hapless public. A very sh**y task I must say.

#8 Playboy: The Mansion

There’ll be no prizes for guessing the inspiration behind this incredibly weird game. Playboy: The Mansion puts you in the boots of its famous owner Hugh Hefner, the legendary creator of Playboy. Playboy: The Mansion’s missions include developing relationships, hiring photographers and writers for the magazine and attending photoshoots among many awesome features.

The game’s soundtrack is also pretty commendable with tracks by reputed artists such as Armand Van Helden and Kaskade featured throughout the game. P: TM was a hit among many gamers due to it being the closest sneak peak of the Playboy Mansion many people would ever get.

#7 Mister Mosquito

To call this game bizarre would be the understatement of the week. Not only is Mister Mosquito highly unusual but also quite disturbing. MM puts you in the shoes of a mosquito whose sole objective is to suck the blood of humans in order to keep healthy during the chilly months. All in all its Call Of Duty: Insect Style.

#6 Banzai Bug

I got this outrageous game, complete with a walkthrough manual, when I got my first ever PC back in ’98 and even though it didn’t seem like much back then I slowly grew to like it, so much so that I still have the CD with me. You play as the games titular character Banzai Bug who leads the perfect insect life until he finds himself, by an extremely odd coincidence, trapped in the house of an exterminator along with several other insects.

The game follows Banzai’s journey as he plots an escape along with fellow creepy crawlies, while evading numerous anti insect traps that litter the exterminator’s house along the way. Banzai Bug provides certainly provides us with a unique gaming experience, and also succeeds in showing us humans what a terror we pose to insects.

#5 Panic!

weirdest video games of All Time

Panic garnered such a bad reception from gamers that it holds the record of being one of the few games to be rated 1 or lower on the discontinued gaming magazine GamePro. Panic! follows the story of a young boy and his dog who get sucked into their TV, courtesy of a complicated computer virus that has infect all the systems of the world.

The gameplay involves teleporting into numerous grids in order to find your way back into the real world. In spite of Panic’s poor ratings, the games randomness and humour were well appreciated by many.

#4 Sneak N\'Peek

In the 1980’s, when video game developers were coming out with futuristic games like Space Invaders, Atari chose to release Sneak N’Peak which is based on Hide N’Seek – one of the most primitive games of all time.

I’m not quite sure what the folks at Atari were thinking while developing Sneak N’Peek due to the game offering little or no hiding spots which leaves the player to eventually be discovered by his opponent. The American video game developer has conjured tons of iconic video game titles, but Sneak N’Peek is definitely one of their forgettable ones.

#3 Michael Jackson\'s Moonwalker

You can’t expect a video game based on Michael Jackson, whose nickname was ‘Whacko Jacko’, not to be weird. Moonwalker, inspired by the legendary singer’s 1988 documentary of the same name, features several levels based on the movie’s storyline and has a score of Jackson’s many hits like Beat It, Smooth Criminal, Bad, Billie Jean etc. The game mainly involves Jackson’s quest to rescue a couple of children, while decimating scores of criminals with the help of his dance moves along the way.

Moonwalker is best remembered for its Dance Magic feature which forces all the criminals to break into a dance sequence which eventually eradicates them due to their inability to keep up with Jackson’s mesmerizing skills. In spite of its weirdness, Moonwalker is still loved by many die hard Jackson fans (myself included).

#2 Pepsiman

Inspired by the Japanese Pepsi mascot of the same name, this games sees you play as Pepsiman – a man inspired by, no prizes for guessing, a Pepsi can! The weird part of the game is derived from the fact that most of the gameplay involves collecting countless Pepsi cans which are used to quench people’s thirst, much like in the commercials.

However despite its unique levels, Pepsiman won the hearts of Playstation gamers all over the world and is still considered as one of Pepsi’s shrewdest marketing gimmicks.

#1 Pac-Man

weirdest video games of All Time

A game whose main character is inspired by a pizza missing a slice definitely comes under the weird category, but that doesn’t take away its awesome quotient. In spite of its unusualness, Pac-Man became an instant rage with its quirky characters and entertaining levels, which helped it become one of the highest grossing games of all time.

Even though it’s been over 30 years since its initial release, Pac-Man still holds a special place in the hearts of many people including the folks at Google who immortalized it with a doodle back in 2010.
