Defiant Developments say that the game is slated to appear on Xbox One in January 2015, as reported by AusGamers. Hand of Fate is quite a lot like chess boxing, only with a delightfully rendered tarot game in place of the chess, and hectic fantasy scraps in place of the boxing. This may sound like a recipe for acute (and bruising) confusion. It looks rather marvelous in practice.
The basic format of the story of Hand of Fate is this : you're playing a card game with a mysterious hooded figure in "a cabin at the end of the world". On picking a card you will be transported to one of over 70 arenas where you'll fight a selection of grotty critters, including 12 bosses. These sections of the game play out like a brawler in the Batman :Arkham Asylum vein, with combos, dodges, stun moves and counterattacks. As a Steam Early Access sweetener, Defiant Development is also offering bonus pre-release content designed by Battlefield and Payday developer David Goldfarb. The side quest will explore the mystery of the corpse of a hunter that's missing its shadow.
"We play a lot of board games and card games in the office: Dominion was a strong favourite for quite a while. In addition, a lot of the team are pretty engaged in playing the God of War and Arkham games. Arkham is one of my favourite personal games and our lead combat programmer is also very enthusiastic about the Batman games." - Defiant's Morgan Jaffit, via PCGamer.
The game will be available in stores on January 2015.
