Hearthstone is getting an update to ranked gameplay after a while. In the previous update, Blizzard introduced ranks 50 to 26 for new players who want to have an even playing field instead of being matched with people who have bought all the card sets in the game.

In the latest update, players will now only need 3 stars to climb the ranks from Ranks 50 to 16. Between ranks 15 to 11, they will need 4 stars and finally between Rank 10 to Legend, they will need 5 stars.
This was actually very similar to what was implemented during the early years of Hearthstone up until very recently. The idea is to make it easier for people to climb ranked ladders. The previous system right before the update, where you needed 5 stars on every single rank to climb, was incredibly tedious and time-consuming. The difference was that ranks 25-21 used to be 2 stars instead of 3.

Players will still only need to win 5 games if they want to get the monthly card back that Blizzard releases. Additionally, ranked floors will also still be a thing. Ranked floors is when you cannot lose a rank and stars once you hit a certain rank. The floors are currently at 20, 15, 10 and 5. You won't be able to lose stars between 50 to 20.
The update will be available from the February Ranked Season onwards. Players will also be set back exactly 4 ranks behind the highest rank achieved in the season, instead of counting the number of stars. If there are any "excess stars" (for example, you are at Rank 10 with 5 stars), they will just be maximized with the number of stars in the rank (same example, you go to Rank 14 next season but with 4 stars).
