Hearthstone Standard Rotation: The 5 Best Paladin Cards Leaving Standard in 2019 (Constructed)

Odd Paladin, Odd Paladin. What cards is Odd Paladin going to lose in Hearthstone's next Standard Rotation cycle? Ever since the introduction of Baku in early 2018, most of the cards introduced in Journey to Un'Goro, Knights of the Frozen Throne and Kobolds & Catacombs have been add-ons to the Odd Paladin deck. There have been many different meta decks of course, but Odd Paladin will take the biggest blow.

We did a few pieces on the best cards leaving Constructed for Druid, Hunter and Mage. Here are some of the best Paladin cards rotating out of Standard in a couple of months in 2019.

#5. Hydrologist

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

This cute little Murloc is a decent body with a strong Battlecry. Paladin secrets are cheap and useful most of the time and they can be quite impactful. Hydrologist does not look strong at first glance, but its synergy with other Murlocs as well as discovering a situational secret has made.

24% of all Paladin decks include Hydrologist and the ones that do have a 56% win rate! Hydrologist is a great include in aggressive Paladin decks as well as Mid-range Paladin decks. The stats don't lie about how good he is!

#4. Lost in the Jungle

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Lost in the Jungle is a cheaper and better version than the Paladin Hero Power. It is also the same as the upgraded Paladin Hero Power but for one less mana. Of course, this is an auto-include in Odd Paladin where you can get 2 silver hand recruits. It has really good synergy with Dark Conviction and Level Up! which can buff your silver hand recruits (also known as "dudes").

The mana cost is a little unfair for what the spell does. It was never in Blizzard's eye to nerf the card, so now it will rotate out to balance Standard once more.

#3. Vinecleaver

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Another card from the Un'Goro set which is an extremely powerful tool for Odd Paladin. Even as a standalone, Vinecleaver is fairly balanced with its mana cost, 4 damage and 3 durability. It is not as powerful as classic weapons such as Truesilver Champion, which is the same attack with one less durability and 3 lesser mana.

However, the ability to bring out 6 silver hand recruits which you can potentially buff is quite strong and what makes this weapon so great.

#2. Sunkeeper Tarim

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Sunkeeper Tarim is an extremely strong class card for Paladin. He has the ability to buff your small minions into 3/3 bodies and to reduce the stats of your opponents minion to 3/3. He also has taunt, which can protect your 3/3 bodies while having 7 damage worth of health to bypass. Paladin players will sorely miss this strong card.

#1. Righteous Protector

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

How is this little guy such a powerful card for Paladin? Turns out, the Divine Shield and Taunt Combo can be annoying and takes a few trades to bypass. Along with having synergies with Sunkeeper Tarim and Dark Conviction, Righteous Protector can also protect your other smaller minions and "dudes" from being killed. 1-drops have also been the problem child of Hearthstone!

Honourable Mentions

Unidentified Maul

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Unidentified Maul and its variations are a powerful include in Odd Paladin decks. A fairly statted weapon, its Battlecry can be used to flood the board, protect your minions and your hero while being able to mow down enemy minions.

Call to Arms

Expansion: Kobolds & Catacombs

Call to Arms was completely busted when it cost 4 mana. It was used in Even Paladin and Aggro Paladin decks and bringing out 3 minions on to the battlefield while also thinning your deck is super busted. In Even Paladin, it guaranteed to pull out 3 2-drops. It stopped seeing too much play after its Nerf, when Odd Paladin dominated the meta.

Spikeridge Steed

Expansion: Journey to Un'Goro

Spikeridge Steed is a powerful spell which gives you +4/+12 worth of stats on taunt. It buffs a minion and summons a 2/6 taunt. It was used a lot in Lynessa and Kaleidosaur decks, but recently sees play in Shirv'allah based decks.

Uther of the Ebon Blade

Expansion: Knights of the Frozen Throne

The Death Knight hero for Paladin is not as strong as Hunter or Mage, but Exodia Paladin is a deck that sees play. The Death Knight is very powerful on its own, a 2/2 hero power is better than a 1/1 in many ways. Destroying the enemy hero by bringing on all the 4 horsemen is an insanely fun way to guarantee a kill on the enemy. Uther of the Ebon Blade will definitely be missed.
