It was quite a disappointment when Griffin failed to qualify for Worlds 2018. The rookie team managed to make it to the finals of LCK only falling short by a bit. However, they won the Kespa Cup in a convincing fashion.

They played their first match of LCK spring split and carried the mojo from last season as they easily won against Kingzone Dragon X.

Here are the talking points from the match.

All the guys are mechanically insane

There is no doubt when it comes to individual skills these guys are on the next level. Tarzan and Chovy had scintillating performance in game 1 as both finished the game with a KDA of 7/0/7 respectively. Game 2 was no different as Tarzan again dominated the Rift with the score of 7/0/5.

Insane Champion pool

Griffin constantly pulls out off meta champions and still win the game. It's their astute knowledge of every matchup in and out which allows them to pick just about anything. This was clear when Viper picked Vladimir in bot lane in game 1 and Lehends pulled out Elise support in game 2. Teams are finding very difficult to ban champions against the Griffin squad as their champion pool seems very vast.

Not a one season wonder

Despite it being only the first match of the season, it's clear that Griffin is not a one season wonder. There have been cases in the past when a new team breaks out surprising everyone with their great performance but eventually fading out. This, however, has not been the case with Griffin. The squad easily managed to defeat everyone in the Kespa Cup and had a dominant display against a strong team like Kingzone.

All the LCK teams are looking to establish their mark early in the season. Teams like SKT T1 and Griffin are leading the charge and it would be interesting to see who will be the eventual winner by the end of the season.
