Microsoft confident that Halo 5: Gaurdians will have a smooth launch

Halo 5: Gaurdians will be releasing this holiday season

Halo fans are hoping that the upcoming Halo 5: Gaurdians will not have a rocky launch like Halo: The Master Chief Collection last year. The previous entry in the title, which released just four months ago, ran into some major problems during launch. Many players complained about the games broken matchmaking system, and 343i has since released a ton of patches to correct the issue. But this time, Microsoft is confident that the launch of Halo 5 will go smoothly.

GameInformer recently had a chance to interview Xbox head, Phil Spencer, at this year’s GDC. During the interview, Spencer spoke about the company’s upcoming release as well as Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

While Spencer admitted that the launch of The Master Chief’s Collection did not go as planned, he assured fans that Microsoft will not be repeating the same mistake with Halo 5. Spencer stated that the team did a lot of “testing methodologies” and were sure that the game was ready to launch. Unfortunately, this did not go as planned but the developers did learn things they did not know. He then admitted that this was something they needed to “get better at.”

“We learned some things we didn't know going into the launch – which is something we need to get better at. You're always going to learn something when you launch; you can't simulate the real-world environment completely inside of any sterile, fixed environment."

Despite this, Spencer is confident that Halo 5: Guardians will not run into the same launch issues as Halo: The Master Chief Collection. He has stated that Microsoft is now taking “extra preventative measures” to ensure the game will have a smooth launch. The recently held Halo 5: Guardians beta has also helped by providing the developers with tons of valuable feedback. This way, the developers can solve the games issues before its official launch. Halo 5: Guardians is slated to launch this Holiday season exclusively for the Xbox One.
