Mortal Kombat 11 is scheduled to release on April 23rd, 2019. Ed Boon shocked the gaming world when he released the initial trailer for the game back at the 2018 Game Awards, and to see that it was being released so soon sent the hype train flying down the tracks.

Since then, we haven't really seen much in regards to what Mortal Kombat 11 will hold. Story-wise, it's assumed that it will continue on with the story that both Mortal Kombat (2011) and Mortal Kombat X have dealt with thus far. The ending of X saw a more aggressive Raiden, exhausted by all the invading forces attempting to take over Earthrealm. A leak prior to the trailer reveal claimed that it would revolve around three main storylines: Raiden's violent tactics, Liu Kang and Kitana building an army in Netherrealm, and Kotal Kahn rebuilding his empire in Outworld.

We won't know much else about the game until the community reveal on January 17th. Hopefully, we'll get more of an idea about what the story will be about or what characters we can expect to see in MK 11. However, we do now know what the box art of the latest installment is.

Boon revealed the cover art for the game on his official Twitter account, showing MK's poster boy and icon Scorpion grasping at something. Scorpion was also featured in the Game Awards trailer, where he faced off against Raiden, who killed the Netherrealm assassin only for another Scorpion to appear and kill Raiden. This trailer has led many fans to assume that we'll get some sort of time travel gimmick in Mortal Kombat 11. Whether that's true or not, we'll have to wait until next Thursday to find out.
