The Dota 2 Crownfall update finally launched after a long wait, and the responses haven't been what Valve would have wanted. The latest content brought Skywrath Mage and Vengeful Spirit Arcana into the mix. Furthermore, the Crownfall event has begun in-game, with the first act now available.

Apart from the Arcanas, two treasures have also been made available for players to pick up and unlock new cosmetic items.

There are two Arcanas that debut with the Crownfall update in Dota 2:

  • The Devotions of Dragonus (Skywrath Mage): Learn more in our guide about the Skywrath Mage Arcana.
  • The Resurrection of Shen (Vengeful Spirit)

You will get to enjoy a new model & pedestal, custom animations & hero assets, and Arcana voice lines with each of these Arcanas. Each costs $34.99.

There are two alternate styles available for each hero - one unlocks upon finishing the Act IV main quest and the other upon completing all main and side quests.

You will earn tokens by playing Dota 2 matches during the Crownfall event, with different heroes providing different token types. This in-game resource can be used to unlock paths through the event map, "progressing the story and earning rewards."

The Crownfall narrative has four acts:

  • The Market of Midgate - You can play now
  • The Deserts of Druud - Unlocks mid-May
  • The Frosts of Icewrack - Locked
  • The Spires of Skywrath - Locked

There are two new treasure sets with the Dota 2 Crownfall update. Baby Roshan courier, Hoodwin, Wraith King, Ursa, and other skins are available within them.

With all that covered, let's move on to how the playerbase reacted to the latest update.

Dota 2 Crownfall update sees community disappointed

The two major issues that players seem to have with the Crownfall update are that it didn't include a gameplay patch and that there was no information about Ringmaster, the promised upcoming hero. The blog post accompanying the update didn't provide any information either.

From snide remarks ("The clowns were us all along") to humor ("We waited for so long for a chicken meepo") and finally disbelief ("Wait where's Ringmaster and actual gameplay patch"), the responses had it all.

Valve contends that Crownfall in Dota 2 marks "a new way of telling stories, offering rewards, and making it more fun to win every game." While that may be the case, a concrete hint at when we could see the new hero would have been equally great.
