Nintendo Direct 2019: 5 biggest announcements that you need to know about

Last night, Nintendo held its first Nintendo Direct event of this year, and gave us much-needed information over what's coming this year on their home console Nintendo Switch.

Without wasting any time, let's just get into 5 of the biggest surprises that graced us with its presence last night.


#1 Astra Chain: a brand new hack-n-slash adventure by Platinum Games

Astra Chain is a new action-adventure hack-n-slash game by Platinum Games (most recently known for Neir Automata) exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

The game features a cyberpunk universe which looks drop dead gorgeous.

“As part of a police special forces unit in a multi-cultural futuristic city, players work together with a humanoid special weapon, Legion, in a synergetic action system of battle and exploration.”

#2 Fire Emblem: Three House's first look revealed

The newest addition to the Fire Emblem series, "Three House" gets a brand new 5 minutes trailer which showcases the different elements the game has to offer.

Fire Emblem, which is a role-playing strategy game, also got delayed from its initial spring release to July 26th, 2019 release date.


#3 Super Mario Maker 2 revealed

Undoubtedly, the biggest announcement of them all was Super Mario Maker 2, for which fans have been waiting for a very long.

No other details were revealed, however, apart from a 1 min teaser trailer, and that the game is coming very soon.


#4 The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is getting a Nintendo Switch remake

A complete re-imagining of the 26 year old title, Link's Awakening is made from ground up for the Nintendo Switch, featuring 3D models and visuals.

The game got a 1 min trailer, featuring a cut-scene from the original game to show how far it has come in the visuals department.


#5 A new Tetris game with Battle Royale mode confirmed

Tetris is finally coming to the Nintendo Switch with a unique take on the game- that is featuring a Battle Royale mode called Tetris 99.

In this, the player has to compete with 99 others players in the ever so common Battle Royale formula.

The game is out today but is exclusive to Nintendo Switch online subscribers.
