One of the greatest Legend of Zelda titles to come out in the franchise's history was 1993 Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. This was the first game in the series to be on a handheld console, as it was released for the original Game Boy.

In Link's Awakening, the Hero must travel around Koholint Island, solving puzzles, exploring dungeons, and collecting the eight musical instruments that will help awaken the guardian of the island, the Wind Fish - all the while battling the nightmares that inhabit the land in an effort to keep the guardian asleep. The game featured nine original dungeons, and 10 if you were playing the Game Boy Color version, Link's Awakening DX.

Link's Awakening is considered by many to be the best Game Boy game to ever be produced; a game that showed how much Nintendo could pack into the handheld device over 20 years ago. Along with the gameplay, the music was simply exhilarating, helping to drag players into the world and strengthening the already incredible experience.

That is why it was so heartening to hear, during the Nintendo Direct that took place today, the company revealing that they would be bringing back one of their most beloved stories in a remake for the Nintendo Switch.

The trailer for the upcoming title showed how Link ended up on the island, battling a storm on the seas only to be knocked unconscious by a bolt of lightning.

The updated graphics for the title are nothing short of adorable, with everything looking bubbly and light. It's going to be a great return to the title for older fans of the series, and a wonderful new adventure for those who never had a chance to play it.

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening is coming later this year, though no official date was revealed. Hopefully, we'll know sooner rather than later.

Remakes seem to be all the rage in the gaming world right now. With Resident Evil 2, which came out on PlayStation, Xbox and PC proving how a well-crafted remake can help breathe life into a series, we can only expect a company like Nintendo to knock this one out of the park.
