In 2018, the PlayStation Network earned $12.5 billion. This sales figure is higher than Microsoft's entire gaming division as well as Nintendo's.

The figures were revealed by Daniel Ahmad, on a recent tweet. PSN topped its figures from the previous year and had a significantly higher profit than they did in 2017.

According to Ahmad, this includes software downloads, add-ons such as DLCs and the PSN subscription.

This does not come across as a surprise since Sony had some amazing exclusives released such as Marvel's Spiderman and God of War. They are also planning to release titles such as the Last of Us sequel and other unannounced titles.

Sony also has an advantage because they have been in the game a lot longer than it's competitors.

Nintendo is the only competitor which has been around longer, but the PlayStation defined an entire generation of gamers and so did its successor, the PlayStation 2.

Sega and Atari and other competitors who tried to get ahead of Nintendo and Sony pretty much got trampled and sold their games rights to other competitors.

Although the Switch has been doing exceptionally well, they are still no match for Sony's might.

Nintendo had a hard time keeping up with Sony over the years with its Wii and Wii U consoles but it seems like the Switch has become more competitive than Microsoft's Xbox. According to Ahmad, the PSN revenue is greater than all of Nintendo's revenue in 2018.

Microsoft's gaming division earned $11.5 billion in total. The figures in these charts don't even account for hardware sales that the PS4 has sold!

PSN is adding over 90 million active users a month and is cheaper than Microsoft's Xbox Games with Gold and also offers free games as part of their service.

For a gamer though, this is a great time to be one. Games are releasing more than ever before and we truly are in the golden age of gaming.
