With the success of Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee, Nintendo is bringing the core series to the console

The latest generation of Pokemon has been revealed. The core titles in the series, gen 1-7, have been primarily on handheld devices up until now. However, gen 8 will take a big step for the franchise as it jumps to the home console.

That's right, the latest Pokemon games, Pokemon Sword & Pokemon Shield, will be released on the Nintendo Switch. Throughout the years, we've seen an incredible variety of Pokemon, gym leaders, and locations, going all the way from the Kanto Region in Red, Blue, and Yellow to the Alola Region of Sun and Moon.

Shigeru Ohmori, the director of Sword & Shield, revealed the details surrounding the Galar region. We saw characters interact in various locations, through winding city streets, illuminated caves, rolling hills and more. We also saw the introduction of the three new starters.

In each generation, players choose from three different starting pokemon. Just like each title before it, Sword & Shield will give players a choice between grass, fire, or water type at the beginning.

  • Grass Type- Grookey, the chimp pokemon
  • Fire Type- Scorbunny, the rabbit pokemon
  • Water Type- Sobble, the water-lizard pokemon

Ohmori said that Sword & Shield will bring about many new changes, as Nintendo and Game Freak hope to introduce new mechanics that evolve the series. Pokemon Sword & Shield will release worldwide later this year.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of the Pokemon Company ended the video by revealing that we will be getting more announcements later regarding other Pokemon projects. Whether that means more games or updating existing titles is unknown. What we do know is that this is an exciting time to be a Pokemon fan.

Which starter has caught your eye? What changes would you like to see now that Pokemon has officially made the move to console? Let us know in the comments below.
