SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers of the end game content of Pokemon Sword and Shield!

Pokemon Sword and Shield have had their Pokedex cut down to a maximum of 400 Pokemon (less than half of all Pokemon ever made) and as a result, the number of Legendary Pokemon is also quite limited compared to previous games. This has been a topic of controversy among many players.

There are currently only 4 Legendary Pokemon available in Sword and Shield -

  1. Zacian - Pokemon Sword's cover art Pokemon
  2. Zamazenta - Pokemon Shield's cover art Pokemon
  3. Eternatus
  4. Type: Null

Here's where you can find all of them in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Zacian/Zamazenta

You can find Zacian only in Pokemon Sword and Zamazenta only in Pokemon Shield. Both Pokemon will make an appearance as part of the story after Sordard and Shielbert anger these Pokemon and put you in charge of rescuing them. They will be found in the Energy Plant depending on which version you're playing.

Both Zacian and Zamazenta can only be found in the post-game content after you have defeated Leon and the Gym Leaders in the final battle. They appear at the beginning of the game as well but in the post-game, they come with their Sword/Shield attached.

Eternatus

The last Pokemon in the Dex, Eternatus is responsible for the Dynamax phenomenon. You encounter this Pokemon in the Energy Plant before you challenge Leon. You can't catch Eternatus at first. You'll have to defeat it and then face off against its Dynamax form.

Zacian and Zamazenta assist you in an awesome battle against the Dynamax Eternatus. Defeat the Dynamax Eternatus to catch the Pokemon. You'll be forced to catch it as a part of the story and the mission.

Type: Null was introduced in Sun/Moon and makes an appearance in Sword and Shield. You'll have access to its memory which will evolve its Type. You have to first defeat the League and unlock the Battle Tower. Once you go to the Battle Tower, a Trainer in the reception area will give you a Type: Null for free as well as the memory items to evolve it.
