Don't be choosy, grab the very first gun you see. Something is always better than nothing. Initially, you will find pistols and short guns, don’t be shy; just pick them. The next important thing is the backpack. There are 3 levels of backpacks - 1, 2, and 3. Capacity is lowest in level 1 and highest in level 3. The same goes for military vests and helmets.
Never say no to a stun grenade, as it becomes very handy in the later stages of the game. Bandages, painkillers, energy drinks, and medkits are the pillars of survival and fill your backpacks with them. When it comes to ammo, take only what you need. For example, if you have a UZI which requires 9mm ammo, and a Tommy Gun which requires .45 ACP ammo, then don’t fill your bags with anything other than those two.
