PUBG Moments: When PUBG Mobile helped me deal with stress

Quite like most stories, my tryst with PUBG Mobile started only because of curiosity. Not only was my fiancé hooked to the game, but my cousins were also.

I sat patiently through the 1 GB download while listening to excitable terms like ‘going prone’ and ‘chicken dinner’. However, I decided to throw myself into the deep end from word go and chose to play classic solo TPP for the first few games to get the taste of what the game really has to offer.

Sure, the first few games were quite confusing to me. I couldn't understand why my avatar lacked clothes and why I didn’t have a starter kit of in-game money to buy some outfits. On starting the game, landing in Erangel awkwardly and then picking up any gun I could find (it was a shotgun, of course) I managed to make my first couple of kills. Reflecting on it now, those could’ve been bots dangled as bait for the noob, but the satisfaction of killing and looting other players was unparalleled.

Having had played on the PlayStation controller all my life, using my phone for controls was a bit of a task at first. Occasional misfires, inability to crouch or be prone was a problem at first, but now it’s second nature to me.

After having learnt the ropes on multiple solo games, I joined my fiancé and his friends for my very first crew challenge. And it was quite a journey. From having the boys provide cover for me during combat with other crews to trading attachments, I managed to have a great time while discovering my favourite ammo while playing PUBG Mobile.

Within a few weeks, they helped me figure out I enjoyed working as a sniper while my crew looted neighbourhoods. A good ol’ VSS, or Mini 14 with a suppressor and 4x scope fills my heart with joy as I look to improve my headshot game during combat.

With my wedding coming up not long after I started playing PUBG Mobile on the regular, I looked forward to getting online with my mates after a long day of shopping and preparations. A lot of people asked me how I enjoy shooter games, but to paraphrase my duo partner, there’s nothing more satisfying than coming home from a tough day at work to try and win a chicken dinner against 99 other people who are there to do the same.

I have been a bit of a survivor, one could say. Not usually the favourite of the PUBG Mobile lot, I win prone-to-prone medals pretty much every game I’ve played. Stealthing in the grass quietly in the last few circles, coupled with a decent SMG with suppressor or at least a flash hider has been my jam. And I don’t think I’m changing my modus operandi anytime soon.

The best part about PUBG Mobile has been that no two games have ever been the same for me. Even if you choose to land in your favourite spots (Mylta, anyone?) chances are you may not have a very good game. And every premature lobby visit makes me crave for a chicken dinner more.
