This is one of the best parts about Red Dead Redemption 2 open world, the wildlife. The diverse climate and the habitats of Red Dead Redemption is home to around 200 different species of animals including fish, birds and other animals. All of them reacts and interacts with the environment in their unique way, they respond and behave in a different manner.

“Deer, bison, and pronghorn traverse the plains in large herds, scavengers quickly sniff out carrion, sockeye salmon leap upstream, wolves attack in packs surrounding their prey, geese fly in fixed formations, possums play dead, rodents scamper into tree hollows, grizzly bears bluff charge when threatened, and birds of prey soar on thermals. They all form part of a complex ecosystem and must continually fight for their place on the food chain. You can interact with a huge variety of wild animals in the game. You may come across the Whitetail Buck, The California valley Coyote, Bald eagles, Grizzly bears, American Alligators or even wolf packs.

Hunting and finish are important skills when you are living on the edge and spending most of the time traveling. Your hunting and fishing skills can provide you with food, essential items, a source of income and other advantages. A huge variety of fishes swims through the rivers, lakes and different water streams, you can use the proper lure and catch yourself some lunch. However tracking an animal is harder, you need to be patient and focused. Watch the direction of the wind and make sure you are not giving your smell away to the wild animals. Your weapon choice and your shooting style matter a lot too. Depending on those the traders can increase or decrease their prices. Make sure your gun of choice suits the kill or master the art of bow and arrow for clean kills.

After a successful hunt you have the option to skin and butcher the animal on the spot or to carry the whole kill with you back to the town. You can sell the kill to the butchers in town. Skin, parts, meat or entire kill can be sold to the butchers. You can also carry it back to the camp to make food or make clothes out of it.

Some quick tips on hunting in the game:

1. Use a bow and arrow for a clean kill.

2. If your first shot is not fatal the animal will try to escape. Follow clues like blood trails. You might have to mercy kill to end its suffering.

3. Approach quietly and stay downwind to make sure it can not smell your presence.

4. Use a call to draw its attention before your fatal strike.
