Resident Evil 2: 5 Beginner Tips to Survive the RPD

RE 2
RE 2

Resident Evil 2 Remake is finally out on the PS4, PC and Xbox One, and boy oh boy have I waited long enough for this.

Well as my first time dwelling into this game since obviously, I was too young to play back when the game originally launched back in 1998, I struggled a lot into the first 2 hours given the fact that the game doesn't hold your hands at all. Mind you, don't expect Resident Evil 2 to be a walk in the park like almost every other AAA game out there these days. RE 2 is an old school game filled with intricated level designs, intense survival horror experiences and puzzles that require your constant attention.

It may not be for everyone of course but if the game seems like something you want to try but do not have the patience for it, then don't worry, you're in the right place.

Here are 5 early tips for all the newbies starting the game that will give you a fair advantage and make the game a little less infuriating then it can be.

#1. Make use of the wooden boards.

As soon as you enter the Racoon City Police Department, the first main area in the game.

You will find a lot of wooden boards in the game. Nope, they are not shields to protect you rather they can be used to board up the windows. DO THAT IMMEDIATELY.

Because if you don't then enemies will keep respawning in those areas( in other words-crawling through the window) and all the bullets you wasted earlier in taking them down would be a waste. Now you wouldn't want that, would you?

Next time you boot up the game, make sure to board up all the open windows like a good kid and thank me later.

#2.Shoot Zombies in the legs.

RE 2
RE 2

RE 2 has a weird mechanic when it comes to shooting zombies. Some of them die in one headshot while others take shockingly 3 to 5 bullets to take down and in worst cases, more.

However, something that always seems to work for me was shooting them in the legs. Putting two bullets down the same leg won't necessarily kill them all the time but at least they won't keep running towards you now and that's good enough. Although don't go trampling them or they will bite your legs this time and that ain't pretty my friend.

#3. Get the Shotgun.

RE 2
RE 2

Getting the shotgun as quickly as possible is the most important thing you'll do in the game.

Aside from your handy pistol, Shotgun will your main weapon when it comes to taking down lickers( the scariest and quickest of them all) as well as during the boss battles.

Now getting that ain't an easy job but don't worry I got you covered.

The Shotgun can be found in the Safety Deposit room of the game which mind you requires a weapon's locker key card to open. To get this keycard you need to get something first and that's a spade key. This key can be found on the third floor of the west side of the building.

The Spade key will open up a pathway( a shortcut) on the same side of the building but on the 2nd floor that will lead you right to the Art Room. This is where you'll find the keycard for that Safety Deposit room. Enjoy!

#4. Mixing the Herbs(Red, Blue and Green).

Herbs
Herbs

If you guys have played the earliest instalments of the game then you're probably aware of how useful the different types of the herbs are in the game.

Well RE2 seems to add a new flavour to it by introducing a blue herb which removes poisons and toxins from your body. Since in the starting area, there are no enemies that could poison you, it may lead to some believe that they are a burden to carry, trust me they are not. Just store them in your inventory for now.

Also, Instead of individually using the mixture of Red and green or green+green, mix up a red with a green and a green herb.

This will restore Leon/Claire's full health and also reduce damage taken for a small amount of time.

The best you can use this combination of herbs is during the boss battles or fighting away with the lickers.

Also in the later areas, mix a blue with red and green which will not just fill up the entire health but also cures poison, guards against them as well as take reduced damage for a small amount of time.

#5. Don't waste bullets on Mr. T.

Mr T

T

As if normal zombies and lickers weren't enough, Mr T(Tyrant) an indestructible force made up from the G virus specifically to kill off all the evidence which includes you, will be on your trail throughout the 10 hours campaign of the game. He will stalk you since the very beginning so don't try and waste your precious bullets on him because he can't be killed. Instead, use headshots time to time to knock him down, that too only when you're trapped in an area, otherwise fleeing is the best option.
