S.T.A.L.K.E.R developer GSC Game World back in business

GSC Game World, the developers behind the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series, have now re-opened and are already working on their first game project. The project, they stated, would be an “old fashioned, full price” game. GSC Game World shut down back in 2011 due to certain “obstacles” that the team felt they wouldn’t overcome. Their representative Valentine Yeltyshev stated the following in regards to cancelling Stalker 2:

"So there were a lot of complex reasons that led to the decision to stop development. We were never closing down forever, but at the time we were aware of some pretty obvious obstacles that we weren't going to be able to overcome. Maybe we needed more team leaders.”

But it looks like all is well now with the company back in business. Their website was updated recently and they have already begun discussing the format of their next game. Yeltyshev has told GameIndustry that they are planning on releasing a full priced game instead of a free-to-play model.

"The market we're in is quite old fashioned, they're not 16 year olds, they're 25-40 years old.” She stated. “We don't think free-to-play is the right model for the game we want to make. So we're making an old-fashioned, full price game, we think our audience will be happy about that."

Their previous title, the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl, was a horror shooter with a few RPG elements. The game is based on a fictitious incident in Chernobyl where military forces have been sent to investigate strange incidents in the area. GSC Game World had since released several other games which were set in the same universe as S.T.A.L.K.E.R, this included S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat.
