Slay the Spire finally got a full release on Windows, MacOS and Linux yesterday on 23 January. The game will also be releasing on the Nintendo Switch sometime later in 2019. It was in early access for a while, since the beginning of 2017. It got a pretty fast full release, compared to many other early access games. You can find the game on Steam for now.

Slay the Spire is a deck building game, where players have to play with the objective of clearing the monsters and bosses in a spire. Each level and encounter gets progressively harder but you are also given the option to build your deck to give you more power. Players also encounter bosses along with monsters and other merchants who will grant you upgrades to your deck.

When starting out the game, players can choose different characters/classes that have unique cards and abilities. As you progress, you also get colour coded cards tailored specifically for those characters. The classes are: The Ironclad, The Silent, The Mystery, The Merchant and Neow. You can see the details on the Steam Community page.

The game reminds me of the single player Dungeon Run / Monster Hunt modes in Hearthstone. There is no online play right now, but the path you can choose with each different character is just so many. You can take quite a lot of time to complete the spire path with one character alone.

Players also have to use "Energy Points" to use their cards, similar to mana in Hearthstone. The game is not very easy though. Not only will you need to strategically build your deck, you will also need to strategically choose your path.

The developers of this game, Mega Crit Games, are known to be great listeners and very receptive. Their incredible reception to user feedback allowed them to release the game from early access in less than 2 years.
