Sony confirms no price drop for the PlayStation 4

PlayStation 4 price to remain the same

Microsoft decided to drop the price of the Xbox One as part of a promotion during the Holiday Season. With a pricepoint of $349, the Xbox One turned out to be much cheaper than its Sony competitor, leading to some pretty good sales for Microsoft. After two weeks of returning to its original price of $399, Microsoft then decided to lower the price of the Xbox One permanently. With the drop in price for the console, many gamers have been wondering if the PlayStation 4 will follow suit. Sadly, this isn’t likely to happen.

In a recent financial briefing for overseas investors and analysts, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer Kenichiro Yoshida was asked if the company had any plans to reduce the price for the PlayStation 4 in response to the Xbox One’s price reductions. Yoshida responded that Sony is aware of the Xbox One price drop, but had no plans to reduce the price of the PS4 in order to compete. This is probably due to the success of the PS4 in the past year, so a price reduction isn’t really necessary.

Instead, Sony will be focusing on promoting their console by giving out free games downloads and coupons. Both consoles have been in the market for over a year now, and it is likely that the price may reduce over the next few months. But with the upcoming exclusive titles for both consoles, the price may not be such a big deal. However, this could change with the increasing influx of casual gamers. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of initiatives Sony will implement in the future to promote their console.
