In a country where ministers are openly calling for restrictions and ban on the widely popular battle royale game, SRM Institute is hosting a one of a kind eSports tournament which is exclusive to the students of Classes 10 to 12. Why? Because the winners will not only get a share of the huge prize pool of the tournament but also assured admission into the SRM Institute of Science and Technology along with attractive scholarships.

The popular battle royale game which came out last year took the Indian community by storm and quickly made its way to become the most played game in the country. It also brought with itself competitive tournaments with the first one being the PUBG Mobile Campus Championship held last year which had a prize pool of around ₹50 lacs.

But, the game also brought with itself several problems such as cases of gaming addiction getting very high. This has become so big of an issue that several schools and colleges have banned students from playing the game on the campus as it hinders studies. Recently, the GOA IT minister called the game a "demon in every house" and called for immediate restrictions on the game.

SRM Institute, on the other hand, has a different perspective on the game. It recognizes that the game is not the issue, the gamers are to be blamed for putting the game first and then their own lives. It also recognizes the huge potential of video games and the esports industry as a profession. The official site says-

Gaming is a productive industry and a money yielding career path in developed countries like the U.S. Universities specializing in e-sports, gaming hardware curriculum is on the rise.

With this, SRM Institute in an association with Playtonia Esports, the same company that hosted the PUBG Campus Championships last year and the ongoing PUBG Mobile India Series, is bringing the International Student Rockstar League, an esports tournament for the games - PUBG Mobile, FIFA 19 and CS: GO. According to their official site -

SRM Institute of Science and Technology in association with Playtonia eSports proudly launches International Student Rockstar League for eSports with whopping 35 Lakhs Prize Pool and scholarships also providing assured admissions in SRMIST, Chennai Campus for top 100 Winners.
