In a country where ministers are openly calling for restrictions and ban on the widely popular battle royale game, SRM Institute is hosting a one of a kind eSports tournament which is exclusive to the students of Classes 10 to 12. Why? Because the winners will not only get a share of the huge prize pool of the tournament but also assured admission into the SRM Institute of Science and Technology along with attractive scholarships.

The popular battle royale game which came out last year took the Indian community by storm and quickly made its way to become the most played game in the country. It also brought with itself competitive tournaments with the first one being the PUBG Mobile Campus Championship held last year which had a prize pool of around ₹50 lacs.

But, the game also brought with itself several problems such as cases of gaming addiction getting very high. This has become so big of an issue that several schools and colleges have banned students from playing the game on the campus as it hinders studies. Recently, the GOA IT minister called the game a "demon in every house" and called for immediate restrictions on the game.

SRM Institute, on the other hand, has a different perspective on the game. It recognizes that the game is not the issue, the gamers are to be blamed for putting the game first and then their own lives. It also recognizes the huge potential of video games and the esports industry as a profession. The official site says-

Gaming is a productive industry and a money yielding career path in developed countries like the U.S. Universities specializing in e-sports, gaming hardware curriculum is on the rise.

With this, SRM Institute in an association with Playtonia Esports, the same company that hosted the PUBG Campus Championships last year and the ongoing PUBG Mobile India Series, is bringing the International Student Rockstar League, an esports tournament for the games - PUBG Mobile, FIFA 19 and CS: GO. According to their official site -

SRM Institute of Science and Technology in association with Playtonia eSports proudly launches International Student Rockstar League for eSports with whopping 35 Lakhs Prize Pool and scholarships also providing assured admissions in SRMIST, Chennai Campus for top 100 Winners. Participants shall compete each other in world renowned game titles such as Counter-Strike:Global Offensive a FPS game for PC players, FIFA 2019 a football simulation game for Playstation players, PUBG Mobile an online multiplayer battle royale game for Mobile players, for exciting cash prize and scholarships and assured admissions at SRMIST, Chennai campus.

The registration for the tournament started on 10th December 2018 and will be open till 12th April 2019. The qualifiers will be held from 15th April to 26th May 2019. The mega event will be on the 29th and 30th of June, 2019. It is worth noting that as the tournament is restricted to high school students, the dates of the competition have also been adjusted such that there are no exams around that time and the majority of the participating students are enjoying their summer break. The registration link can be found here. Note that to participate in the tournament you must be a student of Class 10, 11 or 12 and must have a valid school ID for the same.

The CS: GO games will be 1 v 1 aim. The PUBG Mobile qualifiers will also be solo TPP and the FIFA 19 will also have 1 v 1 games so every player can dawn their skills individually.
