2014 is over. It was a great gaming year for everyone. There were many ups and downs, there were games which were hyped very much but turned out to be disappointing (Assassins Creed: Unity) and there were games which were supposed to release this year, but were delayed unknowingly (Batman: Arkham Knight). But whatever it maybe, this year proved as the milestone for the next gen games.With all that being said, now we will take a look at the games which have been sold the most during the past 15 years across any platform, regardless of it being in PC, Xbox, PS, Nintendo, etc. So without much ado, we start our list now.

#10 Battlefield 3

We start with Battlefield 3, a First-person shooter game developed by EA studios. The game serves as a direct sequel to Battlefield 2 which was released back in 2005. The game released in late 2011 on PS3, XBox 360 and Microsoft Windows.

In its first week, the game sold over 5 million copies and was hugely praised for the combat system and the gameplay. The game was acknowledged for the new variety of missions which featured in the gameplay. Till now 20 million copies of the game had been sold worldwide.

#9 The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim

This is probably the longest and most beautifully designed game that anyone has ever played. Skyrim is considered to be a milestone for RPGs. From the story to the visuals and the gameplay, everything was top notch. The story of the game is set in the fictional world of Skyrim, where the player tries to defeat the dragon Alduin who is hell bent on destroying the world. The game was universally praised for the story development, the visuals, and the gameplay. As of today, the game has sold around 20 million copies.

#8 Grand Theft Auto IV

Released after four years of San Andreas, the game was much in the hype and also marked the entry of the GTA series in the next gen consoles. The game served as a sequel to the Liberty City saga where the players control Nikon Bellic, who is on the run from the mob bosses for various loan issues. The gameplay remains the same, which allows the players to explore the world either on foot or on a vehicle. On its release, it broke all the records and became the fastest-selling entertainment product while selling 25 million copies worldwide.

#7 Call of Duty: Black Ops

Call of Duty: Black Ops is referred as the game which changed the face of the CoD universe. It was this game, where the story got darker and all the incidents of the previous games collided. The game also featured the voice of the Avatar superstar Sam Worthington as the main protagonist Alex Mason. The game broke the record which was set by it’s predecessor.

Within 24 hours of going on sale, the game had sold more than 5.6 million copies, 4.2 million in the U.S. and 1.4 million in the UK. As per the recent details, the game has sold around 26.2 million copies making it the second most successful game in the series.

#6 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3

After the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops, the next game of the CoD series, Modern Warfare 3 received much anticipation and hype. And the game delivered what the fans wanted. Although the main campaign was short, the gameplay saved the game.

The variety of missions featured in MW3 was very different from its previous installments, but everyone was disappointed with the short campaign (as mentioned above). MW3 is currently the highest sold game of the series with 26.5 million copies sold worldwide.

#5 GTA San Andreas

When GTA San Andreas was released, no other game delivered the open-world experience like this game. The long campaign with a variety of missions and the gripping story made the players glued for many hours. If you aren’t interested in doing the missions then you have the option of roaming freely in the massive world of San Andreas. Well, most of the gamers enjoyed the game using the cheats, which served as a fun experience.

The cheats allow you to travel anywhere, gave you weapons with infinite bullets, not getting arrested, and you could actually fly your cars! As of today, the game has sold around 27.5 million copies all over the world.

#4 Wii Play

When Wii Play was released, it proved as one of the biggest revolutions in the gaming world. After its release, Sony and Microsoft launched their Kinect and Motion sensor gaming features. The Wii Play is a party video game developed by Nintendo for the Wii consoles. It features nine mini-games which can be played either in single player mode or can be enjoyed with your friends. Wii Play is the fifth best-selling game for the Wii, with 28.02 million copies sold worldwide as of 2012.

#3 Grand Theft Auto V

Third on our list the latest installment to the GTA series, The Grand Theft Auto V. This game was the most commercial and successful game of the entire series and has sold over approximately 40 million copies worldwide. The game was released for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360.

The game is set to be released on Microsoft Windows in January 2015. For the first time in the series, the game has featured 3 main protagonists and also supports first-person mode. GTA V was praised for the open-world gameplay, the character development and the graphics.

#2 Super Mario Bros.

This is the game that literally ruled all our childhood and loved universally. The small Mario jumping, breaking bricks, killing weird creatures and who can forget the music!. The Super Mario Bros. was originally released for Nintendo in the year 1985 and is the second most sold game with over 50 million copies sold worldwide. The commercial success of Super Mario Bros. has caused it to be ported to almost every one of Nintendo's major gaming consoles.

#1 Tetris (Electronic Arts)

Topping the list is the Tetris game, which was developed and released by Electronic Arts in 2006 for the mobile platform. The game has sold more than 100 million copies and was released for each and every portable platform that includes Android OS, iOS, PSP and Windows OS. The gameplay is same like other Tetris titles, but with a new soundtrack.

The game offers two modes for the players, the “Marathon Mode” and the “Magic Mode”. However, after five long years this game was removed from the App Store, the Google Play store and later replaced by an updated paid app, which completely removed the Magic modes.
