#1 Titanfall

Topping our list is Titanfall which released on March 2014 for PC and next gen consoles and is a multiplayer first person shooter game. In Titanfall, players control the "pilots" and their mech-style Titans, and fight six-on-six matches set in outer space colonies. Many critics have considered this game as the successful evolution for first person shooter genre. The game can boast upto 50 characters who can be active in a single game. Non-player activity have been dropped to Microsoft’s cloud computing services to optimize local graphical performance. The game is said to have taken inspiration from Star Wars and Blade Runner.

#2 Wolfenstein: The New Order

Wolfenstein : The New Order is set in an alternative 1960’s Europe in a world where Nazis have won the Second World war. The players control Blazkowicz, a war veteran, who attempts to stop the Nazi operation and recover justice. The story is arranged in chapters, which players have to complete in order to progress through the story. The game features a variety of weapons, most of which can be dual wielded.

#3 Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! is the third game in the Borderlands series. The game focusses on four playable characters, who were NPCs or enemies in previous games of this series. The game follows Handsome Jack's descent into villiany, focusing on his escape and capture of the Hyperion company's base on Pandora's moon Elpis. The game has introduced new gameplay mechanics that includes freeze weapons, oxygen tanks and low-gravity environments. This game was well prasied for its new gameplay features and maintaining the trademark humour and style of the game series.

#4 Enemy Front

Enemy Front is a war themed first person shooter game released on June 2014. The game is set during World War II and is mainly played through the protagnist flasbacks. The game is said to have real historic events highlighting Nazis attacks in Europe and is set in Poland and Norway, considered as the theatres of war. The game is described in the official website as,

#5 Sniper Elite III

Sniper Elite III is the prequel to 2012's Sniper Elite V2. Sniper Elite III is set several years prior to the events of V2, following the exploits of Karl Fairburne as he participates in the North African conflict during World War II, where he learns about a secret wonder weapon programme by the Nazi forces. The gameplay mechanics have been improved from previous games and the stealth mechanics have been reworked. An eye icon opens to denote the player's level of detection by the enemy and the Enemy soldiers will also have a circle meter over their heads to indicate alert status. V2's X-Ray kill cam system is retained and have expanded the visualization of the rest of the cardiovascular, skeletal, and muscular systems.

#6 Alien: Isolation

The game is a first person survival horror stealth game and is listed at sixth position in our list. Aliens: Isolation is set in 2137, 15 years after the events of Alien and 42 years prior to Aliens. The game follows Amanda, who investigates the disappearance of her mother Ellen Ripley. Amanda gets transferred to the space station Sevastopol to find the flight recorder of Nostromo only to discover that an Alien has terrorized the station and have killed the vast majority of crew.

The Alien AI is programmed with a complex set of behavioural designs that unlocks as it encounters the player, for instance the Aliens doesn’t have a pre-determined path and it hunts the player from the sight, sound and smell.

Another war themed first person shooter in our list, the Verdun game is set during the First World War. The game is said to be inspired from the infamous battle of Verdun in 1916 and consists of the weaponry in First World War and historical maps of Western Front.

#8 Contagion

Contagion is a multiplayer first person shooter, zombie horror game that focusses on 3 different game modes; Hunted, Escape, and Extraction.

Hunted supports up to 16 players, is a "deathmatch" game mode in which players fight against each other, while A.I. controlled zombies wander the level and serve as an environmental hazard. The goal of the game is to be the last living player.

Escape is a cooperative mode in which a team of upto 8 players are tasked with fighting with zombies while completing various mission objectives in a linear order with the ultimate goal of escaping the map.

Extraction is also a cooperative game mode in which the player’s goal is to explore an area and rescue a number of A.I. controlled non-player character survivors and escape.

Both Escape and Extraction can also be played off-line by a single player.

#9 Rambo: The Video Game

This game is based on the famous Rambo film series acted by Sylvester Stallone. The players take the role of John Rambo and progress through the first three Rambo movies First Blood, First Blood Part II and Rambo III.

The game mechanics include stealth, demolition, and fighting off enemies using knives, guns and using a cover system to avoid taking fire.

The last in our list is DeadCore, which was released for PC on October 17th, 2014. DeadCore is a platformer-First-Person-Shooter combining exploration and speedrun. The primary aim of the game is you must climb a huge gigantic Tower as fast as possible while avoiding to be kicked down by its security system. Upon reaching the Tower you will eventually figure out the truth behind this strange universe. The game is said to be challenging, precise and fast.
