The current generation of video games has seen a significant shift towards a more multiplayer service-based title. As the likes of Destiny, Call of Duty, Fortnite, which are no doubt making millions of dollars for the developers and the publishers alike, there is still a big chunk of video game fans that still prefer story-driven narrative single-player games.

Sony seems to be the most dedicated publisher in the market currently who's still pretty much focused on making more and more single-player games with interesting characters and storylines that touch our soul.

Hence if one's looking for a game which will leave them mesmerized with its wonderful cast of characters, stories that they could relate to, long after the credits have rolled than they are at the perfect place.

Here are the top 5 PS4 story games:

5. God Of War(2018)

Kratos and Atreus in God of War

Sony Santa Monica took 8 years to bring back God Of War with a completely different setting, gameplay mechanics, weapons, locations, and mostly a more human version of Kratos.

The story of God Of War is simple but just like Naughty's Dog phenomenal The Last Of Us, whose inspirations are clearly reflected in this re-imagined version of God killing simulator, its all about the journey.

The Journey of Kratos and his son Atreus, a journey of a father and son through the depths of the Midgard - the vast and picturesque depiction of Norse Mythology and a combat system inspired by the Dark Souls games, God of War is a complete package.

But instead of remembering this once, hack n slash beat them up series, God of War (2018) will make you feel emotions that you haven't felt before while playing through this series.

Its single-shot camera angle will make you stick through Kratos' highs and lows as he tries to leave his past behind and accept a new future for himself and his dear old son.

but believable.

When its shiny visuals aren't taking one's breath away, its three main protagonists - Kara, Connor, and Markus, played by Valorie Curry, Bryan de Chart and Jesse Williams respectively will keep them hooked till the game's 10-12 hours long story is finished, and that's just one playthrough.

Just like Quantic Dreams' previous titles, Detroit: Become Human shoves a plethora of narrative choices and dialogues upon one's throat. What it does extremely well this time around is that it provides a flowchart at the end of every chapter for one to see the number of options they had and what other possible directions it can go to once they replay the section.

Such a curiosity will keep players hooked on to Detroit: Become Human but that's not the only thing that the game does right. Detroit Become Human is a story people will feel for, characters they will love or get to hate immediately, and that's what is the strength of this game.

4. Detroit Become Human

David Cage's portrayal of a future where Androids are taking over the jobs of humans is bizarre but believable.

3. Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2's story is like a melancholic fairy tale. It's 60 hour long campaign doesn't feel like a drag even though its combat feels repetitive and mission design tends to get old and predictable by the time you reach its epilogue.

But that's not the strength of Red Dead Redemption 2. Arthur Morgan's tale of brotherhood and betrayal is enough to care about this gigantic open-world game.

Arthur Morgan is unquestionably the finest and most complex video game protagonist of this generation and beyond. If one thinks John Marston is the most loved and ideal protagonist, they should know that Arthur is on an entirely different level and that's for better.

Being a prequel, RDR 2 does lack surprises when it comes to its overarching story, but in spite of that, its strong and believable set of characters and an open world that is begging to be explored keeps one going.

The story of Dutch Van Der Linde gang is iconic and people will remember it for years to come as the standard-setter for narratives in open-world games.

2. Life is Strange: Before the Storm

Chloe Price and Rachel Amber in LIS

The original Life is Strange is an emotional roller coaster ride that will take one back to their teenage years, something they will cherish for a long time as they unravel Max Caulfield and Chloe Price's story.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm, however, is on a completely different level. The game serves as a prequel to the original title and puts you into the shoes of anarchist Chloe Price.

Chloe is just an ordinary everyday teenager, a rebel with a cause, for whom the whole world is out to get her. Her story is simple, she's all alone in a world that has abandoned her, only to stumble upon the most beautiful girl of her class-Rachel Amber.

Chloe and Rachel's chemistry is one of the finest that has been ever portrayed in a video game. Every emotion they feel through is something that players will feel as they journey through Arcadia Bay once again but from Chloe's perspective.

Life is Strange: Before the Storm is a gem of a game, something which shouldn't be missed by anyone.

1. Horizon Zero Dawn

Every generation we have a new IP that defines that console generation. Like the original Uncharted or The Last of Us defined the PS3 era, Guerrilla Games' ambitious open-world post-post-apocalyptic adventure Horizon Zero: Dawn seems to define the PS4 and is undoubtedly one of the best adventures to be had this generation.

With its jaw-dropping visuals, an addictive and dynamic combat system, its gigantic robot dinosaurs and its charismatic main protagonist Aloy, is what everything is right with this huge open-world adventure.

Set years into the future, Aloy of Nora, a brave young woman journeys into a world unknown to her, to discover the dark secrets left untamed by her ancestors.

Horizon Zero Dawn's version of a foreseeable future feels fresh and original and even though its narrative isn't that strong due to lack of interesting characters, Aloy single-handedly takes the plot forward and the by the time the credit rolls, one would have experienced a truly beautiful story.
