Turtle Rock co-founder states Left 4 Dead 3 unlikely but not impossible

Left 4 Dead 2

Valve has not made any announcement on a possible Left 4 Dead 3, but Turtle Rock co-founder Chris Ashton stated that he hasn’t yet ruled out the chances of working on the game and has acknowledged that in end it’s up to Valve to make that call.

Valve seems to have a knack for holding onto its third instalments in some of the game franchises it has produced like Half-Life 2. They also have not released any recent news on a lot of their anticipated titles, so it’s no surprise that we haven’t heard any info of a possible Left 4 Dead 3 yet. Ashton recently told PC Gamer that “It would only be possible if Valve wanted it to be that way. It’s their IP now, so they’re in charge of where that goes.”

Turtle Rock more focused on its latest game Evolve

The speculation of a possible third instalment grew further after a visitor to Valve’s HQ in Bellevue last year spotted a Left 4 Dead 3 reference in an internal company changelog. Valve has since not made any announcements either confirming or denying the rumour.

Valve has also not announced any future plans for the co-op series so fans of the game franchise currently have nothing to look forward too. Furthermore, Ashton has stated that Turtle Rock is now more focused on its latest game Evolve and even though they would love to work on another Left 4 Dead game, it’s still unlikely that it will happen anytime soon.

Ashton has stated the following:

“Left 4 Dead was very much like Evolve in that it’s a game we wanted to make, it’s a game that we sort of invented. It’s where we cut our teeth on co-op. And so it’s always going to be close to our hearts. A lot of people would jump at the chance to work on Left 4 Dead again in the future but… it’s probably... I would say it’s unlikely but not impossible.”

Third installment unlikely but not impossible

So even though a third instalment for the game is unlikely, it’s certainly not impossible. If only that were the case with the Half-Life franchise.

On the other hand, their latest title Evolve has been in the spotlight lately, with 2K giving a closer look at Cabot, the games new support hunter that uses its orbital dust strike skill to reveal monster locations.

Turtle Rock has also revealed that all of Evolve’s DLC maps will be completely free. So its good news for fans of Evolve, not so much for Left 4 Dead 3.
