World of Warcraft gets new currency

The concept of WoW Tokens

Tired of third-party gold trades? Is your account being mis-used by others? Well, fret not. Blizzard Entertainment has introduced an upcoming currency, called WoW Tokens that will take care of these issues soon enough. The WoW Tokens will be a relief to both long time players and short span gold traders.According to what we have seen on the World of Warcraft Blog, the new Wow Tokens look really promising considering players can purchase them using in-game gold or real money. The Tokens are worth 30 days of gameplay and since 30 days of gameplay is currently priced at $14.99, we’re expecting the tokens to be priced pretty close to that. The developers have also made provisions for the players to be able to trade WoW Tokens at a predefined value depending on supply and demand at the Auction House. However, the only condition here is that once the Tokens are purchased with Gold, players are not allowed to resell them.

Blizzard Entertainment has given an official statement as to why they decided to introduce this concept of WoW Tokens:“We’ve heard feedback from players that they’d be interested in a secure, legitimate way to acquire gold that doesn’t involve the use of unauthorized third-party gold-selling services—one of the primary sources of account compromises. We also know players who’ve amassed large amounts of gold through regular play would be interested in the ability to trade some to other players in exchange for game time, helping cover their subscription costs. The WoW Token feature gives players on both sides of the equation a secure and straightforward way to make that exchange. It opens up a new kind of payment option for World of Warcraft players, and we hope that it will also help lead to fewer account compromises and a better game experience overall.”

Also, these WoW Tokens are free from expiry and will continue to be in use until the game exists. Players will also be unable to delete them. We believe that what Blizzard Entertainment is trying to do is set up a small economy within the constraints of gameplay. Undoubtedly this will lead to a division in the community of gamers. The developers have not yet set a date as to the release of WoW Tokens. Till then you can check out our review of World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor
