World of Warcraft may soon receive a Veteran Edition

The World of Warcraft may soon add a new free-to-play option, as revealed by the datamined files of the game. The massive online multipayer game has a patch 6.1 in which some of the data makes references to something called the Veteran Edition. This edition seems similar to that of the currently available Trial Edition which allows the players to reach directly on level 20 without spending any cash.

While the new edition sounds good, still a number of restrictions are there which include a level and money cap, along with limits on how many whispers they can send and who to. They won't be able to sign guild charters or use the Looking For Group feature either. Sometime ago, the community manager Bashiok mentioned that the developers are looking into several ways in which the players can trade the purchasable in game items and exchange them for game time. The general idea is those with lots of time can play more and earn the right to play the game for free, while those with less time (likely due to jobs) will have more disposable income and so can buy the extra game time.
