The Indian eves got off to a flier in the Hero Gold Cup in Bhubaneswar earlier this year after defeating heavyweights Iran but lost track courtesy of double defeats against Nepal and Myanmar. Incidentally, India is clubbed with Nepal, Myanmar, and Indonesia in the Olympic qualifiers.

After a first-round exit in the Turkish Women’s Cup, it is a time to mend their ways before the AFC Women’s Olympic Qualifying rounds gets underway next month. The Turkish Cup was a preparatory tournament for the qualifiers but it seems that the players did not make the most of it, even though a lot of mistakes have been identified from the fixtures.

More importantly, India will be hosting the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup next year, which is a huge boost for the sport in our country. The men's team has got a lot of exposure from various tournaments like the AFC Cup, now its time that the women also get their due importance.
