Adidas launched the world’s first knitted football boot on February 27, 2014, Adidas Samba Football Primeknit Football boot. It is now followed by Adidas Primeknit 2.0.
Adidas revealed Primeknit 2.0 on April 20, 2015, an upgrade to last year’s Primeknit. What makes this special is that the whole cleat is made from the revolutionary Primeknit technology. This model brings together two key Adidas innovations, Samba Primeknit and Primeknit FS (Footy Sock), a concept launched in 2014. Regarding the styling, the boot is mainly black (dark navy). The iconic three stripes are seen on the side on the boot in silver. The Adidas performance logo is also seen on the heel area. A striking green ankle design is predominantly seen. Both the tongue and the sole of the cleat boast the eye-catching Solar green color.
The boots feature a high Techfit collar design (anatomical heel shape and design- follows the natural shape of the back of the foot) for better ankle support which is very similar to Nike’s Dynamicfit collar concept. A seamless fit is offered with the one-piece woven upper. A thin synthetic layer (lightweight vacuum coated skin) is also present on the upper for better durability and ball control in wet weather conditions. This layer covers most of the upper of the boot.
A knit structure is seen on the forefoot area, it is specifically designed to aid control. The 3D structure on the control knit structure offers ultimate ball control with unmatched maneuverability and traction, which is a lot similar to the F50 Adizero outsole.
An all new compression fit technology is also seen with the Primeknit 2.0. The tongue includes Lycra yarns, these yarns are designed to wrap around the midfoot area and they create a maximum lockdown effect.
The sole plate of the Adidas Primeknit 2.0 Cleat is the same as that of 2015 Adidas F50 Adizero. It features triangular studs for better acceleration. Three studs on the heel area and a second layer of the studs improve traction.
Adidas Primeknit 2.0 follows Adizero 99g. It is another jewel in the new Adidas ‘Limited Collection’ series. These are again available in limited quantities, and will be showcased as the best in Adidas innovation. Unlike 299 pairs of Adizero 99g 10,000 pairs of the Primeknit 2.0 are available worldwide and went on sale from April 22, 2015 for a price less than $300 i.e. around 20,000 INR. It is available in Adidas Sports Performance stores, select retail stores and on Adidas.com.
