The AIFF Regional Academy, Navi Mumbai defeated defending champions Chandigarh Football Academy 2-0 in the final of the 13th All-India Administrator’s Challenge Cup at the Chandigarh Stadium Ground yesterday.

For the AIFF Regional Academy boys based in Navi Mumbai it was their first-ever tournament trophy after they had played numerous practice and friendly matches at their home ground, the Fr. Agnel’s Ground in Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

Reaching the final was already a surprise as the Chandigarh Football Academy had to field a depleted side in the tournament with some senior boys leaving for the AIFF Regional Academy and Tata Football Academy, while others were injured; which meant coach Harjinder Singh had induct of boys from the younger batch into the senior one for this tournament.

The AIFF Regional Academy boys were the better of the two sides on display, but they missed a number of their chances before the took the lead just before the breather through Hayden Fernandes. The AIFF Regional Academy boys would seal the victory just before the final whistle with substitute Delbert Fernandes scoring.

In the end the AIFF Regional Academy lifted the trophy and received prize money of RS 200,000 (2 lakhs), while Chandigarh Football Academy received Rs 100,000 (1 lakh) as runners-up.
