Just days after Dodsal-owned Mumbai Tigers FC pulled out of the I-League due to logistical reasons, the AIFF has scraped the Mumbai side from the participants list for the 35th edition of the Federation Cup, which is set to be played in January 2014.

Mumbai Tigers FC surprised everyone when they without any prior indication pulled the plug on their I-League team, which had not gained promotion to the top tier of Indian football but was one of the two expansion teams besides JSW-owned Bengaluru FC.

The official reason behind the pullout given was operational reasons as the club was simply not ready for the I-League, but that is not being taken seriously in the market.

The AIFF will now have to decide on who would replace Mumbai Tigers FC in the 16 team group-cum-knockout competition with a top 2nd Division I-League likely, otherwise the AIFF could play qualifiers like they have done in the last few years.
