Bhaichung Bhutia offers training opportunity to reformed LeT member Majid Khan
The former Indian captain has come to the rescue of an estranged Kashmiri youth.
What's the story?
Recently, a young budding footballer from Jammu and Kashmir sent shockwaves through the state by announcing that he had joined a terrorist organization, Lashkar-e-Taiba. But in a brilliant news, Majid Irshad Khan decided to flee the terrorist camp and recently surrendered to the armed forces.
Khan is with his family in Kashmir at the moment. After learning this news, Indian footballing legend Bhaichung Bhutia has requested the J&K FA to reach the boy in focus and has offered Khan an opportunity to train at his football school in Delhi.
In case you didn't know...
Khan had posted photos on Facebook with a rifle after which his parents and friends pleaded with him to leave the path of violence and come back to normalcy. After surrendering, the teenager gave a quick press conference and in a good news, the armed forces are ready not to press any charges against him.
The heart of the matter
Meanwhile, Bhutia today tweeted that he has gotten in touch with the footballing authorities in J&K and have asked them to get in touch with Khan. Bhutia wishes that the estranged boy comes to Delhi and join his academy - the Bhaichung Bhutia Football School in Delhi in order to give him an opportunity of having a shot at pro football.
Khan represented his district in football and was currently pursuing his graduation from South Kashmir. It remains to be seen what the wandered soul decides to do next.
It was a brave decision by Majid Irshad Khan to free himself from the clutches of terrorism and it is now a heartening move by Bhaichung Bhutia to help the teenager adjust back into the society and make him live his footballing dream.
