I-League new entrants Bharat FC have signed this week midfielder Asif Kottayil on loan from Mumbai City FC for the remainder of the 2014/15 season.

Kerala-born Asif started his football at the Payyanur College before being picked-up by 2nd Division outfit Malabar United FC in 2008. Two year later he shifted to Kolkata-based I-League side United SC, then called Chirag United SC but left them after only a season to return to Kerala and sign for Chirag United Kerala, formerly Viva Kerala.

In 2012, Asif returned once more to Kolkata to sign for then called Prayag United SC, which actually also was United SC and played two good seasons in the I-League for them before joining Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC. There he played three games towards the end of the campaign before picking-up an injury.

Asif is a midfielder, who is best used in a holding position, where he can use his vision and technical ability.
