Boubacar Sanogo signs for NorthEast United

Boubacar Sanogo has scored 35 goals in the last three years

NorthEast United have confirmed the signing of Ivorian Boubacar Sanogo for the second edition of the Indian Super League. The 32-year-old was contracted to UAE club Fujairah SC where he made 27 league appearances in 2015. The club announced the new signing through their official twitter account.

The Ivorian joins a formidable attack of Diomansy Kamara, Holicharan Narzary, Nicolás Vélez and Francis Dadzie. The team struggled for goals last season, scroing just 11 in 14 matches finishing rock bootom of the inaugral Indian Super League.

Siroco de San-Pedro was the club where the Ivorian made his debut making 71 league appearances in the two years he stayed at the club. After spells with Tunisian club Esperance and UAE club Al-Ain, Sanogo got an offer fro Bundesliga club FC Kaiserslautern. In his one year with the club, he scored 10 goals in 24 matches for the German club.

He left FC Kaiserslautern for Hamburg where he struggled for goals and scored just 4 in 31 league appearances. Werder Bremen seemed to be interested in the player and paid €4.5m t take him off Hamburg's hands. At Werder Bremen, Sanogo helped the team finish as runner-ups in the Bundesliga in 2007-08.

He later had short stints at 1899 Hoffenheim, St-Ettiene and Energie Cottbus. Along with his club exploits Sanogo also earned 21 caps for the Ivorian National team scoring 8 goals.

Along with the “5 star attack”, NorthEast have also acquired the services of former Portugal winger Simao Sabrosa and talented youngster Seityasen Singh.

Sanogo was pleased in signing for the Indian Super League club telling the NorthEast United twitter handle, “I am happy that I signed for NorthEast United FC.I look forward to the Indian Super League with great anticipation.”

NorthEast United head coach Cesar Farias praised the latest aqusistion stating, “He is a great addition to our squad. Sanogo brings more experience to the table as he was very successful in tough league like the French ligue and the German Bundesliga.”

“He has scored more than 35 goals in the last three years. He has a great combination of age and football maturity on the field and is a natural finisher. He moves brilliantly inside the 18-yard-box and this will be a great addition to our repertoire,” he concluded.
